Visa to Acquire BioCatch

Visa to Acquire BioCatch

Business Wire India

Visa (NYSE: V) today announced it has signed a definitive agreement to acquire BioCatch, a leading provider of behavioral-first, multi-signal fraud intelligence, from funds advised by Permira and other shareholders for $2.4 billion in cash. The acquisition of BioCatch complements Visa’s existing cyber, fraud, risk and security solutions and is expected to help clients better protect themselves and their customers from the growing threat of account takeovers, scams, money mules and application fraud.

Since its inception, BioCatch has developed innovative AI and machine learning-based solutions that analyze thousands of application, behavioral, device, and network signals—such as keystrokes, touch gestures, and device handling—to detect fraud and distinguish legitimate users from fraudsters in real time. BioCatch protects 1.8 billion devices and 760 million users around the world, serving more than 350 banking clients in 21 different countries, including more than 100 of the largest banks globally.

“Account takeovers and scams cost the global economy over $1 trillion annually and AI is enabling these attacks at unprecedented scale,” said Andrew Torre, president of value-added services, Visa. “BioCatch will help our clients stop fraud before it reaches the point of payment. This acquisition is part of our strategy to help clients prevent cyber threats upstream, building trust into every transaction.”

AI, biometrics, authentication, identity, cyber defense and fraud prevention are increasingly interconnected, and Visa is investing to stay ahead of evolving threats, both to protect its own network and to help clients do the same. That includes the Visa Vulnerability Agentic Harness, an open-source AI security tool designed to help clients identify and remediate vulnerabilities at scale. The acquisition of BioCatch builds on Visa’s existing suite of products, providing AI-powered solutions to detect and prevent fraud and both cyber and financial crime, from account opening to transactions. Over the last five years, Visa has invested more than $13 billion in technology and infrastructure to safeguard the integrity of the payments ecosystem and accelerate the decline in fraud rates.

“Real-time insights into customer intent continue to grow increasingly essential for institutions to establish trust within digital banking sessions,” said Gadi Mazor, CEO, BioCatch. “For more than a decade, we’ve demonstrated behavior’s unique ability to distinguish the criminal from the legitimate. In the last couple of years, we’ve shown how real-time intelligence-sharing networks between our customers can amplify the power of our behavioral intelligence further still. Together with Visa, we’re even better positioned to advance our mission of making the world a safer place to transact and protect consumers from financial crime.”

The transaction is subject to customary closing conditions, including receipt of applicable regulatory approvals. The transaction is expected to close by the end of Visa’s fiscal second quarter of 2027 and will provide significant benefits to its financial institution clients, consumers and the wider payments industry.

About BioCatch

BioCatch prevents fraud and financial crime by recognizing patterns in human behavior, continuously collecting more than 3,000 anonymized data points — keystroke and mouse activity, touch screen behavior, AI agent usage, jailbroken devices, and more — as people interact with their digital banking platforms. With these inputs, BioCatch’s AI and machine-learning models continuously assess both user intent and any signs of coercion or manipulation throughout every millisecond of every digital banking session, allowing banks to distinguish the criminal from the legitimate in real time. Insights drawn from across the network of BioCatch institutions further amplify the power and accuracy of that real-time risk-scoring. More than 350 financial institutions deploy BioCatch solutions, analyzing 19 billion user sessions per month and protecting more than 760 million users on more than 1.8 billion devices around the world from fraud and financial crime.

Global Review of 21 Million Children Suggests Many Countries May Be Underestimating Autism Support Needs

Many countries may be underestimating the number of children who need autism-related support services, according to a new global review that could inform future healthcare, education, and early screening policies.

Published in Osong Public Health and Research Perspectives, the study analyzed data from 66 studies involving more than 21.3 million children across multiple continents. The researchers estimated that 0.77% of children worldwide are diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder (ASD), roughly 1 in 130 children. Among boys, the estimated prevalence was 1.14%.

ASD is a neurodevelopmental condition that can affect communication, behavior, sensory processing, and social interaction. Early identification can help children and families access services sooner, such as speech therapy, behavioral support, educational planning, and family counseling.

The researchers say the new findings may be especially useful for governments and health systems as they plan future child development services.

“Reliable prevalence estimates help countries understand the likely scale of need and prepare support systems sooner,” said corresponding author Kurvatteppa Halemani. “Without clear data, services may be developed too late or at an insufficient scale.”

The review found substantial regional differences. Higher reported prevalence was more common in several high-income countries, whereas many low- and middle-income countries reported lower rates. The authors say these gaps may partly reflect differences in awareness, screening programs, specialist availability, and healthcare access rather than lower true prevalence alone.

“In some settings, lower reported numbers may indicate that children are being missed or diagnosed later, rather than fewer children being affected,” Halemani said.

The study identified Australia among the countries with the highest pooled prevalence estimates in the review, while rates varied across continents and countries. Researchers note that broader awareness, improved surveillance, and evolving diagnostic criteria over recent decades have likely increased case identification worldwide.

The findings come as many countries expand child mental health and developmental services while facing shortages of trained specialists. The authors say prevalence data can help guide planning for screening programs, teacher training, specialist clinics, inclusive education, and long-term support into adulthood. Experts often compare public health data to a map: when needs become visible, systems can respond more effectively. For ASD, this may mean shorter wait times for diagnosis and earlier access to support during key developmental years.

The study was a systematic review and meta-analysis, which combined results from previously published studies rather than evaluating new patients directly. The authors note that differences in diagnostic methods, study design, and healthcare systems across countries may affect direct comparisons. Still, the review provides one of the most up-to-date global summaries of childhood autism prevalence and serves as a practical benchmark for future planning.

RBI Names New Executive Director for Forex Department

Mumbai, Aug 4: The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has appointed Monisha Chakraborty as its new Executive Director (ED), effective August 4, entrusting her with oversight of the Foreign Exchange Department and the Financial Markets Regulation Department.

A career central banker with more than three decades of experience, Chakraborty has held several key positions within the RBI across supervision, foreign exchange, and government and bank accounts. Before her elevation, she served as Chief General Manager-in-Charge of the Department of Supervision.

She has also served as Banking Ombudsman and was a member of the technical committee that reviewed the format of the RBI’s Balance Sheet and Profit and Loss Account. Chakraborty holds a degree in Economics and a Master’s degree in Business Economics from the University of Delhi.

Her appointment comes weeks after the RBI named Ravi Shankar as Executive Director. In his current role, Shankar continues to head the Department of Statistics and Information Management, which he previously led as Adviser-in-Charge.

A statistician and career central banker with over 30 years of experience, Shankar has worked in corporate and banking statistics, the government securities market, settlement systems, debt management, and survey-related functions. Deeptech Company Enlite Secures Second Patent that Helps Reduce Complexity in Commissioning and Operating Intelligent Buildings

Mumbai, Aug 04: Enlite, a homegrown deep-tech company building intelligent infrastructure systems, has been granted its second Indian patent for an invention titled “System and Method for Cloud-Based Configuration of Building Management Controller(s).” The patent covers Enlite’s proprietary system for centrally configuring and managing building management controllers through a secure, cloud-based framework. It reduces the complexity involved in commissioning and operating intelligent buildings.

Configuring field devices across multiple sites remains one of the most time consuming and resource intensive parts of building automation. Traditionally, this has required engineers on site to configure each controller by hand, and to repeat the process from scratch whenever operational changes were needed.

Enlite’s newly patented technology takes a cloud-native approach instead. Controller configurations can be created, modified, tested, and deployed remotely through a centralized system. By digitising this process, the system shortens commissioning timelines, reduces manual intervention, and lets building automation projects roll out faster and at scale.

The patented system also supports remote maintenance, real-time synchronisation, version control, and reliable configuration management. This lets building operators manage operations consistently across properties in different locations, without compromising on accuracy or efficiency.

Gaurav Bali, Co-Founder and CEO of Enlite, said, “Our first patent proved the hardware could go wireless. This one proves the entire configuration process can move to the cloud too. Together, they show what a full-stack Indian building automation company looks like.”

Garima Bharadwaj, Co-Founder and CTO of Enlite, added, “Building automation has always been a physical process, one engineer, one site, one week at a time. This patent moves it into software. Configuration now happens from the cloud, anywhere, in minutes.”

The technology is expected to benefit commercial buildings, airports, hospitals, industrial facilities, educational campuses, hospitality properties, and data centres, all of which rely on secure, scalable, and centrally managed building systems. With this second Indian patent, Enlite continues to build out its IP portfolio and its position as a company developing genuinely domestic, full-stack innovation in smart infrastructure and building automation.
