MOIL registers record December production

MOIL has registered the best December production of 1,41,321 tonnes of manganese ore in December 2022. Producing at its rated capacity level, production increase has been to an extent of 18 percent over November 2022.

Sales at 1,64,235 tonnes for the month have also been spectacular, with a growth of around 91 percent over November 2022.

Shri Ajit Kumar Saxena, CMD MOIL, who has taken charge as CMD on 29th December 2022, shared that it is heartening to see the MOIL team coming together to register such a performance and expressed confidence that the same will be continued.

Paradip Port signs off 2022 by posting record monthly cargo volume in the month of December

The New Year 2023 began at Paradip Port with a bang as Team PPA signed off 2022 by clocking the highest ever-monthly cargo throughput in the history of all Major Ports in the country, with all-time record cargo handling of 12.6 MMT in December 2022. Shri P.L. Haranadh, Chairman, PPA congratulated the Team PPA for this magnificent performance. The New Year 2023 is going to augur well for the Port, as it is all set to cross the coveted 100 MMT cargo handling mark, in the month of January itself. The Port is poised to set all-time record cargo handling of more than 125 MMT in the current fiscal. Till December 2022 PPA has handled 96.81 MMT cargo against 83.6 MMT in the corresponding period of the previous fiscal. Various system improvement measures, introduced by the port during this year, fuelled growth to the tune of 15.5% over last year. Coastal Thermal Coal handling has shown a remarkable 58.11% growth in comparison to the previous fiscal and it also constitutes about 31.56% of the total cargo volume handled at the Port. Paradip port is emerging as a coastal shipping hub of the country and has plans even to coastal ship thermal coal to powerhouses, located in Rajasthan, UP, and Haryana.

50 Electric Buses launched in Delhi with support under FAME India Phase II scheme of the Ministry of Heavy Industries

Dr. Mahendra Nath Pandey, Minister of Heavy Industries said that under the FAME II Scheme of the Ministry of Heavy Industries (MHI), Cities/STUs/State Governments placed supply orders for 3,538 Electric Buses. Out of those 3,538 Electric Buses, a total of 1,716 electric Buses have been deployed as on 2nd January 2023.

He further stated that for the Union Territory of Delhi 400 Electric Buses; 300 Electric Buses to Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) for intra-city operations and 100 Electric Buses to Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) for last Mile connectivity were sanctioned in the Month of August 2019.

The supply orders were to be placed by 15th January 2020. DMRC issued a supply order in December 2019 to the successful Bidders whereas Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) could only issue a supply order in March 2021. To facilitate DTC, MHI extended the last date of the supply order by DTC 31st March 2021, as a special case for providing a pollution-free world-class transit system to Delhi.

A total of 250 buses have already been deployed by DTC and now the remaining 50 buses have been launched, fulfilling the commitment of MHI to provide 300 electric buses to DTC. The Central Government will be giving an incentive of Rs. 165 Crore to DTC for these 300 Electric Buses.

MeitY releases Draft amendments to the IT (Intermediary Guidelines & Digital Media Ethics Code) Rules, 2021 in relation to online gaming

The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology today released draft amendments to the IT intermediary rules 2021, pertaining to Online Gaming for public consultations.
The draft has been prepared to ensure that online games should be offered in conformity with Indian laws and that the users of such games be safeguarded against potential harm.

Last week,on 26th December, the Government through a gazette notification, notified a change in the Allocation of Business rules designating Meity as the nodal ministry for online gaming-related concerns. Today, on 2nd January, merely a week later, the Ministry released the draft rules for public consultation.

Briefing reporters on the proposed draft, Minister of State for Electronics and IT, Shri Rajeev Chandrasekhar affirmed that “The rules are simple – we would like the online gaming ecosystem to expand & grow and be an important catalyst to India’s One trillion dollar Digital economy goal by 2025-26. We also envision a bigger role for startups in the online gaming industry”.

The Minister said that the Ministry had moved swiftly in the framing of the policy and this was possible due to a series of meetings/consultations conducted by MeiTY with stakeholders prior to drafting the policy. He added that the Ministry would be holding another set of public consultations to finalize the policy soon.

He said the draft has proposed a self-regulatory mechanism which, in the future, may also regulate the content of online gaming and ensure that the games do not have violent, addictive, or sexual content.

As of now, the age gating is 18 years and we would like to keep it that way and see if the present framework works to expand the innovation ecosystem around online gaming while keeping it safe & trusted for gamers.

Speaking on the safety concerns, the Minister said around 40 to 45 percent of the gamers in India are women, and therefore it was all more important to keep the gaming ecosystem safe.

He said the draft rules have strict provisions against betting and wagering. The online games that allow wagering on the outcome are effectively a no-go area, he stressed.
