MAKO Medical Expands Popular ASPT-Accredited Phlebotomy Program

Nashville, TN, — MAKO Medical Laboratories, a national full-service reference laboratory and national leader in COVID-19 testing, is expanding its accredited American Society of Phlebotomy Technicians (ASPT) training school for phlebotomists by adding additional training dates and options for classes, as well as a full-time class. Currently, the classes are for MAKO Medical employees, but the facility plans to offer the training to that outside of MAKO in early 2023.

“We care deeply about the needs and wants of our team, and we are excited to be able to offer phlebotomy certifications as yet another career growth opportunity within MAKO,” said Josh Arant, Chief Operating Officer, MAKO Medical.

MAKO team members can sign up for the Phlebotomy course through MAKO University (MAKO U), a career enhancement effort established during this rapidly changing time in health care. MAKO will offer this program free to team members across all MAKO locations.

MAKO U has the backing of ASPT, one of the top two phlebotomy certifiers in the U.S. It will include 14 weeks of class time and hands-on instruction, with the potential for expediting the process, depending on how quickly students progress through hands-on clinical days.

“Without a certification, phlebotomists are hard-pressed to land a job,” said Tiffany Filbeck, MAKO phlebotomy supervisor and lead instructor for MAKO U. “I’m looking forward to pursuing my passion of teaching while making a lasting impact on student’s career trajectories beyond their certification exam.”

In order to pass the program and qualify for the ASPT certification exam, MAKO U students will participate in two four-hour virtual instruction days per week, paired with online assignments. One month into the program, students will begin hands-on training by practicing on manikin arms before moving to the real thing.

Students will need to conduct 25 successful draws before progressing to their clinical rotation where they must complete an additional 75 successful draws before then taking the ASPT exam for final certification. The exam includes a written portion and a practical blood draw simulation.

As MAKO team members graduate from MAKO U and receive their certification, they will be able to return to assist with future classes as instructors. This keeps them involved in the program while also allowing them to stay up-to-date on their skills. As more graduates return to serve as instructors, MAKO hopes to increase teaching capacity enough to open the program up to the public.

AG&P PRATHAM CONDUCTS LEVEL – III OFF SITE MOCK DRILL AT HEBBAL, MYSURUMysuru, January 2023: AG&P Pratham, one of the leading player in the Indian City Gas Distribution (CGD) industry, organized a Level – III Off-site Mock Drill today at Hebbal, Mysuru. The drill was successfully executed with joint efforts from AG&P Pratham Team, Mysuru District Administration Authorities, National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), Department of Factories, Boilers, Industrial Safety & Health, Fire & Emergency Services Department, Police Department, RTO Department, Urban Primary Health Centre (UPHC) Team, Chamundeshwari Electricity Supply Corporation Limited Mysore (CESCOM) Department, Mysore City Corporation (MCC), Mutual AID Partners viz., Automotive Axle, BEML, Rane Madras, J.K.Tyres.

Following Senior Officials presided and witnessed the mock drill,

Mock Drill scenario:

The unloading Pump Discharge Line of the LNG Tanker got damaged after an LNG tanker collided with an existing electric pole and a pipeline construction machinery. Total 19 people sustained injuries at the site. The incident lead to leakage of LNG and formation of a vapour cloud with an impact radius of 65 meters.

In response to this, the site supervisor called the project in-charge and informed them about the incident. Simultaneously, people at the site started rescuing the injured people to a safe place away from the incident area for medical aid to prevent further injuries and causalities.

Available staff of AG&P Pratham rushed to the incident site. After the assessment of the situation, they called the control room and Health, Safety, Security & Environment (HSSE) department to get help from mutual aid partner for medical and fire service support. Chief Incident Controller (CIC) was informed of external help as there was the possibility of fire if the gas gets a source of ignition which may lead to loss of life and property and called for immediate medical emergency action.

Chief Incident Controller (CIC) immediately rushed to the incident spot, after assessing the situation, called for the following support:

  • Fire & Emergency Service Department
  • Police and RTO
  • District Administration Authorities & District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA)
  • Chamundeshwari Electricity Supply Corporation Limited
  • UPHC and Ambulance for medical emergency
  • City Municipal Corporation (MCC), Mysuru.

On the directions of the District Authorities, NDRF team reached the incident site and started evacuating people residing within the 65 meters radius from the incident spot. Awareness through various means were made to the nearby public, requesting them not to go towards the incident spot. All the departments like CESCOM, Fire Department, UPHC team, District Administration, Police and RTO department, and MCC acted swiftly and controlled the situation within the stipulated time.

Mr. Arun Nayak, Regional Head, Mysuru, Mandya, and Chamarajanagar, said, “Mock drills help evaluate and assess the situation beforehand and ensure preparedness to take any precautionary measure in a similar scenario. AG&P Pratham always strives for the utmost safety of all the staff and public involved and such mock drills help us achieve just that. We will conduct more such drills in other regions of our operation in the near future.”

The drill ended with a formal de-briefing session where the best practices, learning, and insights of the mock drill were discussed. The drill witnessed the systematic and coordinated working of all the partners involved and helped minimize the response time for key check points.

Amy Worth Receives 2022 President’s Award from the Realtor Association

“Disabled Artist Showcase: Creating Our Spaces” Film Screening

Bronx, NY, January 02, 2023 – – Wabi Sabi Productions Inc, A 501 (c)3 will be producing a public virtual film screening of the short film “Disabled Artist Showcase:Creating Our Spaces” on Youtube Live.

The film directed by disabled award winning filmmaker Emmitt H Thrower features four disabled artists/activists. Vocalist/Lyricist James Ian and Director Dominick Evans both have the rare disease SMA (Spinal Muscle Atrophy). Dominick has multiple less visible disabilities as well as being part of the Trans community. Their music video created entitled “Spaces” which was sponsored by Genentech as part of their SMA My Way program won “music video of the year” at the 2022 Wavy Awards in NYC. James was the vocalist and songwriter of “Spaces” while Dominick Evans was the virtual director. James is a resident of Los Angeles and Dominick a resident in Ohio.

Leroy Moore Jr. and Keith Jones both have cerebral palsy and are co-founders of the international organization of disabled musicians and poets called “Krip Hop Nation.” Leroy who is currently working on his Ph.D. at UCLA is also a poet and journalist. Keith Jones is currently planning the launching of “DA CHNL” a disabled channel featuring disability related content made accessible to the disability community by disabled artists.

They created a music video entitled “A Blindman Stood on the corner and cried” which is a tribute to the late Josh White Sr. song with the same name. The lyrics were written by Leroy and the music was composed by Keith. The film was shot by Erick Matus, produced by Wabi Sabi Productions, and the concept and direction by filmmaker Emmitt H Thrower.

Both music videos are featured in the short film.

Emmitt H Thrower the CEO and founder of Wabi Sabi Productions Inc is an award winning filmmaker, director, actor, writer, and music publisher. He is a stroke survivor with loss of vision in one eye and impaired vision in the other and deals with some mobility issues. His book and audiobook “New Borning: A Bronx Tale” will be released on Amazon, Audible, and iTunes in 2023. The book will also be released later in 2023 as a “Cinema Book” which is an autobiographical cinematic version of the audiobook. A cinema book is a book you watch instead of reading, something originated by Emmitt as a way to create a visual, movie like experience that enhances the book experience in a new and fun way.
