What To Eat During Winters To Keep Yourself Warm

Vikas Chawla, Ayurveda Expert, Founder & Director, Vedas Cure

Winters become unbearable without warm clothes, cosy blankets and food that keeps you toasted throughout the season. While clothes and blankets are possessed by everyone, what are the best eatables is a dilemma for most people. It is extremely essential to eat warm yet healthy food that does not have an adverse effect on your body. Experts suggest that instead of choosing options that might burn a hole in your pocket or are not conveniently available around you, home remedies or ingredients readily available at home can prove to be an even better option to curb winters.

Below mentioned are some of the most favourable food habits for the winter season that would keep you warm and active:

• Hot Soups- Containing a good amount of vegetables and made with pulses, cereals or any other semi-liquid composition, soups are a great source of warmth during winter. Adding pinches of salt, pepper, cinnamon, and other spices that play a vital role in keeping the body heated and adding taste to the eatable is an outstanding way of relishing it.

• Meat- Meat is known to raise the body temperature and gives energy as well. It is a remarkable source of iron and protein and majorly contributes to improving metabolism against illness. It can be used in semi-cooked and fully-cooked forms, soup, curries or roasted.

• Hot beverages- Hot beverages are something that is loved by all, homemakers, working people or retired members of the family. Everyone loves to cherish their favourite beverages, tea, coffee, flavoured milk, soup, juices, and kadha, at regular intervals of the day. Apart from relieving your taste buds, these beverages also keep you warm throughout the day.

• Ghee- Ghee is the most loved natural ingredient that is used with every food, pulses, vegetables, chapati, milk, etc. The component keeps your body’s temperature high and strengthens your body’s immunity. It can be used for cooking food as well as in raw form along with it.

• Ginger- Apart from being the most effective herb for treating cough and cold, ginger is an excellent component for warming the body by increasing blood flow. It can be used as a herb in tea or by boiling in water, as well as raw for instant relief from a throat infection.

• Dry Fruits & Nuts- These are a rich medium of fat and reduce body temperature. Dry fruits and nuts are also an efficient alternative to food and provide equivalent energy in consuming a smaller amount of it as well. A few of them also provide iron and are suitable to be consumed in any season. However, winters are far more preferable.

• Jaggery- It is the most commonly used sweetener in various parts of our country. Consisting of iron, it improves the digestive system and keeps the warmth of the body intact. It also cures constipation and boosts metabolism. It is good to consume a small amount of jaggery after meals every day during the winter season.

• Sesame Seeds- Consumed in the form of halwa, laddoo, powder or any other composition, sesame seeds are an excellent component for keeping the body heated. They are filled with iron and calcium and bring several benefits to the body along with relief from cold.

Comment by Mr Rohan Pawar, CEO of Pinnacle Group on RBI MPC’s announcement to hike the repo rate by 35 bps to 6.25%

“The Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) of the RBI increased the repo rate by 35 basis points, bringing it up to 6.25%. This is part of an ongoing effort to bring under control the high level of retail (CPI) inflation, which is currently between 6% and 6.5%. In this cycle of rate increases, the repo rate has increased by 225 basis points (bps) after the most recent increase. Even though the projection for GDP has been scaled back, the central bank has signalled that it does not intend to hurt the growth sentiment by hiking interest rate too much. In general, the increase in the repo rate represents measured steps that are commensurate with the changing economic conditions. The increase may have a temporary effect but will be of no influence on the housing market in the medium to long term as the demand for housing remains robust.”

Mindler and IRM India Affiliate Collaborate to develop risk-literate Children through the Enterprise Risk Career Program

National,  December 2022: In a bid to bolster risk literacy and risk awareness among India’s school students right from an early age, the Institute of Risk Management (IRM), India Affiliate, has partnered with Mindler to launch the Virtual Internship Program (VIP) on Enterprise Risk Management.

IRM is the world’s leading professional body for ERM qualifications and offers professional qualifications across 140 countries, Mindler is one of India’s most advanced career planning platforms for schools. Specially tailored for 8th to 12th graders, the VIP is an extremely affordable simulated experiential learning initiative that will give young students a glimpse into the world of ERM, helping them to understand what it means to be a certified Enterprise Risk Manager and introducing them to a career in risk management.

The world today is more complex than ever before. Fast-evolving global developments and events like the financial crisis, pandemic, war, cyber-attacks, geopolitics, linked inflation, and climate change have proven that the future is going to be challenging for both businesses and countries across the globe, including India. With Aatmanirbhar Bharat, it is also important for India’s youth to be risk-intelligent and well-equipped with the knowledge to solve any type of risk using problem-solving and analytical thinking skills.

The VIP will aim to create an interest in risk-thinking and urge students to consider ERM not only as a career path to becoming a Risk Manager or Chief Risk Officer but also as a must-have global skill for any job role, a family business, or entrepreneurial venture, as risk is universal.

The VIP will include a simulated internship with role play and experiential learning anchored by senior industry expert Mr. Rajeev Tanna who is a Certified Fellow of the IRM (Level 5) and Head of Risk Management and Compliance at Tata Consulting Engineers.

Hersh Shah, CEO of IRM India Affiliate, commented on the virtual internship program:

“We are delighted to partner with Mindler to develop this one-of-a-kind virtual internship program. As we march towards emerging as an economic powerhouse, India is going to need a generation of capable, creative, and risk-intelligent problem solvers and crisis managers who have the acumen to develop solutions to the world’s most complex problems.

ERM is no longer a career but a must-have global life skill. As the leading global body for ERM examinations, we are committed to developing a generation of risk-intelligent leaders who can enhance organizational success and help build sustainable, environmentally conscious, and governance-focused enterprises in a world where ESG has taken center stage.”

“ERM and risk management is also one of the fastest-growing domains with an average 30% increase in job opportunities each year. The role of the CRO has also been in demand and IRM through its 5-level certificate track (Fellowship at Level 5) has developed many qualified CROs across the globe.

Furthermore, a joint report by IRM and national statutory body AICTE revealed that 96% of organizations believe that risk literacy is important for success. The IRM India Affiliate and Mindler collaboration assumes even more significance keeping these factors in mind. We hope that this VIP will contribute positively to the education ecosystem and become a platform for young school students to actively consider adding ERM as a global skill,” added Shah.

Also commenting on the collaboration, Mindler’s Pratham Sutaria, Head of Mindler Immerse and New Initiatives, said:

“Mindler has been at the forefront in helping students make the right career choices. In the past six years, we have helped 2.5 million students find the right career path. The Virtual Internship Program has thirty-six career options and now, we have added the ERM program. The program is very much in line with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020. We are delighted to collaborate with the leading global body for ERM qualifications for this program. We want to create an ecosystem where students get opportunities to understand how different careers function. This program provides an opportunity to enter a simulated world and try out ERM as a career option. We are positive that this collaboration will benefit millions of students.”

Watch The City Glow: 10th Annual Illuminate SF Festival of Light Brightens the Longest Nights of the Year with Luminous Light Art

San Francisco’s neighborhoods will transform into a luminous gallery of art at night during the holiday season for the 10th annual Illuminate SF™ Festival of Light. Presented by San Francisco Travel Association and 5M in collaboration with local civic, arts, and cultural partners, 2022/2023 Illuminate SF festival runs from Nov. 9 through the end of January and celebrates San Francisco’s vibrant art scene.

Inspired by the debut of Leo Villareal’s The Bay Lights, San Francisco Travel launched the festival in 2013 to brighten the longest nights of the year. Illuminate SF has grown since its inception from six to 62 temporary and permanent eco-friendly light art installations created by a diverse array of acclaimed international and local artists, including Olafur Eliasson, Jenny Holzer, Daniel Libeskind, Jorge Pardo, and Jerry van Eyck, along with San Francisco Bay-based Jim Campbell, Johanna Grawunder, Dorka Keehn and Brian Goggins.

Illuminate SF light art installations can be experienced across the city from the Embarcadero to the Inner Sunset, North Beach to Bayview, and while flying in or out of San Francisco International Airport (SFO). The works come to life at dusk, turning evenings into an illuminating adventure, especially when combined with exploring San Francisco’s world-class restaurants, nightlife, cultural events, and holiday activations.

“There is nothing like celebrating the festive season in San Francisco’s captivating glow,” said San Francisco Travel President and CEO Joe D’Alessandro. “The city has one of the country’s most extensive collections of light art, and this holiday season Illuminate SF will be even bigger and brighter. And in keeping with San Francisco’s ethos of inclusivity and accessibility, nearly 80% of the light art installations are free for visitors and residents to enjoy.”

“We are thrilled to be the presenting sponsor for this year’s Illuminate SF and to showcase our majestic wind baffles that light The Parks at 5M,” said Christie Donnelly, Director of Development for Brookfield Properties. “The Illuminate SF lighted art tour starts at 5M and is quintessentially San Francisco, uniting the community through arts, culture, and experience.”

Spectacular New Additions to the Illuminate SF Festival of Light

The Wind-Baffles: The iconic wind baffle structures that anchor The Parks at 5M, a new, vibrant community connected to the surrounding fabric of San Francisco’s SOMA District by a cohesive network of public spaces, are the brainchild of Jerry van Eyck, founder of! Melk is an award-winning urban design and landscape architecture firm. Built to mitigate wind, the baffles or “windbreakers” are artfully illuminated from the outside and complemented with a soft glow that radiates through the perforations in the upper zones. Though made from steel, a material associated with heaviness and industry, the baffles are often referred to as “flowers” for their stem and leaf-like design elements. Come nightfall they transform into breathtaking sculptures and suddenly seem to float.

Helical Trace: A permanent installation inside the new LUMA Hotel in Mission Bay, Helical Trace is local artist Jim Campbell’s newest contribution to San Francisco’s Light Art Trail. The dynamic light installation can be seen from the street through the lobby’s floor-to-ceiling three-story windows. The prolific artist who installed Day for Night atop the Salesforce Tower created this striking installation that looks different from every angle and uses the reflection of the windows to amplify its movement. At a distance, the helix form gives the illusion of water across the light. The figures within climb an infinite stretch of the waterfall, allowing Campbell to create delight out of physical struggle.

Franchise Freedom: Immersive Arts Alliance will bring the acclaimed aerial light performance Franchise Freedom to San Francisco for five nights beginning Jan. 12. Created by internationally renowned Lonneke Gordijn and Ralph Nauta of DRIFT, Franchise Freedom is comprised of 600 illuminated drones that will fly from Treasure Island over the San Francisco Bay towards the Embarcadero, allowing visibility along the shorelines in San Francisco, Sausalito, Emeryville, and Berkeley. Based on a biological algorithm from over 10 years of research into starlings’ flight behavior, Franchise Freedom stretches the boundaries between nature and technology and generates an impactful social connection.

Lucy in the Sky: One of two new light art installations joining the City’s extensive Civic Arts Collection, Erwin Redl’s Lucy in the Sky is a landmark artwork in the city’s new Central Subway (first opening for weekend service on Nov. 19). Located in the Union Square/Market Street Station, the immersive installation is comprised of over 500 translucent 10 x 10-inch light panels, each containing an array of color LEDs. The panels are suspended along the entire length of the concourse level’s ceiling, spanning nearly 670 feet. Installed in a diamond-shaped pattern, the light panels are computer programmed to slowly change color and display simple patterns, creating a kaleidoscopic experience.

Untitled: Along the Van Ness Bus Rapid Transit (VN-BRT) Geary Street Station’s north and southbound boarding platforms, Jorge Pardo’s lighting sculpture brings a pop of whimsical light and color. Comprised of painted steel, fiberglass, acrylic, and LED light fixtures, Untitled is playful and sophisticated with engaging use of color, form, movement, space, and light.

Peace in the Middle East: Taravat Talepasand’s Peace in the Middle East returns as a permanent installation in the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts Grand Lobby. Hung from the ceiling, this intricate neon artwork (featuring the word “peace” in Farsi “صلح”) explores the cultural taboos that reflect on gender and political authority through Talepasand’s lens as an Iranian-American woman.

Lantern Stories: San Francisco: This public art installation of 29 illustrated lanterns by award-winning interdisciplinary artist Yu-Wen Wu illuminates San Francisco Chinatown’s history, culture, and community. Creating a luminous canopy on the 600 block of Grant Avenue, the lanterns relate the long and fraught history and legacy of Chinese immigration in the U.S. They feature images of Bruce Lee, Amy Tan, journalist Helen Zia, pioneer restaurateur Cecilia Chang and others. Many highlight the arts, calligraphy, music, and performance, as well as the community’s strong commitment to education, entrepreneurship, and social justice.

GLOW: Discover the Art of Light: The Exploratorium is bringing back its popularity – GLOW: Discover the Art of Light from Nov. 17 through Jan. 29, 2023, with six artists illuminating Pier 15 with light sculptures big and small. Five of the seven installations are new. In Gallery 3, Jen Lewin’s The Last Ocean is an expansive landscape of interactive platforms that illuminate to resemble a glowing ice field. Created from reclaimed ocean plastic, the platform’s five-sided pieces form a beautiful geometric tessellation — a repeating pattern of flat shapes with no gaps.

In the Black Box, Anila Quayyam Agha’s All the Flowers are For Me is inspired by Islamic textiles, architecture, and floral motifs. A single beacon of light glows from within a suspended steel cube, producing immersive patterns that ripple and change as visitors move through the space. Similarly, Agha’s Teardrop (after Robert Irwin) interweaves delicate, traditional Islamic decorative geometric patterns and architecture with modern materials. The work is inspired by jaalis (intricate, carved screens), which cast moving shadows as the sun rises and falls.

Entangled Attraction and Ray lights, a pair of installations by Resonance Studio artists Sally Weber and Craig Newswanger, immerse visitors in trails of light in motion. Entangled Attraction features 100 pinpoints of light that appear to orbit around each other when viewed from afar, while Ray lights produce ever-changing, mandala-like light patterns synchronized to ambient sounds.

Let’s Glow SF: Downtown San Francisco will again boast the largest holiday projecting mapping event in the U.S. with the return of Let’s Glow SF. Running Dec. 2 to 11, the nightly journey of light and color will feature stunning whimsical, abstract, and naturalistic winter-themed works by local and international artists projected onto four iconic buildings.

Ondc Will Be A Gamechanger For The Fmcg Say Experts At The Cii Fmcg Summit

Mumbai, December 2022: Open Network for Digital (ONDC) is an open network for different entities with different products that will come together, stated Mr. T Koshy, CEO, of ONDC.

Speaking at the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) FMCG National Summit 2022, Mr. Koshy explained that anyone with a product or service to sell can make it available in the open network and can access the platform. “ONDC has a set of specifications that will assist sellers in making their catalog visible to buyers,” he said.

Mr. Koshy also stated that there are numerous opportunities for local producers to make their products visible through ONDC. “You don’t have that option in today’s market. It will be prohibitively expensive to establish an alternative e-commerce operation in India. It can only be done by one or two people. However, through ONDC, the seller will be able to do so easily,” he said.

Mr. B Sumant, Executive Director of ITC, stated that a strong supply chain serves as a backbone for a company like ITC, which has multiple brands. “Strong supply chain helps to grow the brand as it connects end to end users,” he said

Mr. Sumant also informed me that the next big challenge in e-commerce will be to figure out a way to reduce customer acquisition and make them viable. He said, “ONDC protocols would standardize processes such as cataloging, inventory management, order management, and order fulfillment.”

Mr. Ambarish Kenghe, VP-Product Development, Google Pay informed us that ONDC will create economic growth and will help in improving all kinds of industries. “ONDC will create an opportunity for the society along with the sellers and buyers to come together.”

Mr. Kenghe also stated that ONDC will encourage easy adoption of digital means, as not many small businesses are currently connected to digital commerce networks. “ONDC will give small businesses a variety of ways to be discovered and conduct business over the network,” he said.

Abbott Launches Navitor™, its Latest-Generation Transcatheter Aortic Valve Implantation (TAVI) System to Treat Aortic Stenosis in India

New Delhi, India, 07 December, 2022 — Global healthcare company, Abbott today announced that it has launched its latest-generation transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI) system, Navitor™, making the minimally invasive device available for people in India with severe aortic stenosis who are at high or extreme surgical risk. With the Navitor valve, the company is advancing TAVI (also referred to as TAVR, or transcatheter aortic valve replacement) therapies with innovations including a unique design to prevent blood leaking around the valve. The Navitor TAVI system is the latest addition to the company’s comprehensive structural heart transcatheter portfolio that offers physicians and patients less invasive options to treat heart diseases.

Aortic stenosis is one of the most common and life-threatening heart valve diseases. It restricts blood flow through the aortic heart valve to the rest of the body, which can lead to heart failure and, in certain cases, sudden cardiac death. While many people don’t have noticeable symptoms, in India, one in 40 people aged 75 and older have severe, symptomatic aortic stenosis. For these people, open-heart surgery is considered a high-risk procedure due to the potential complications stemming from age, frailty, or having multiple other diseases or conditions. TAVI serves as a less invasive alternative to surgical aortic valve replacement and can reduce symptoms and improve the lives of patients with this debilitating condition.

Prior to TAVI, the standard of care for severe aortic stenosis was surgical aortic valve replacement, but not all patients were candidates for open-heart surgery.

“For people in India suffering from aortic stenosis and unable to have surgery, this TAVI system offers a safe and effective treatment option. The size ranges allow for patient-specific sizing and optimal valve function,” said Dr. Ashok Seth, Chairman of Fortis Escorts Heart Institute and Chairman Fortis Medical Council, New Delhi. “While transcatheter valve replacement has for some time been a standard of care for elderly patients with a narrowing of the aortic valve, this device helps to address challenges we sometimes find in current TAVI systems when we encounter challenging patient anatomies which may lead to potential problems and difficulties.”

Dr. Praveen Chandra, Chairman – of Interventional & Structural Heart Cardiology, Medanta, Gurgaon, said, “ Aortic valve replacement can be a challenging procedure for people with complications such as age or comorbidities. For such people, a minimally invasive procedure is beneficial. This TAVI system offers important design advantages, helping us with accurate placement and easy access to the coronary arteries for any future interventions, if required. These attributes help with better patient outcomes, even across challenging anatomies.”

Navitor features a unique fabric cuff (NaviSeal™) that works with the cardiac cycle to reduce or eliminate a backflow of blood around the valve frame known as a paravalvular leak (PVL), a common complication following TAVI procedures. The new device is the only self-expanding TAVI system with intra-annular (within the native valve) leaflets and large frame cells – features designed to help improve access to critical coronary arteries to facilitate future interventions to treat coronary artery disease (CAD). The new design additionally provides improved hemodynamics or better blood flow.

The Navitor device is implanted with Abbott’s FlexNav delivery system, which offers a slim design with the lowest TAVI delivery system profile, allowing treatment of people with vessels as small as 5.0 mm. The slim catheter can accommodate different aortic anatomies for stable, predictable, and accurate valve delivery and placement.

“The innovative design of the Navitor valve paired with the FlexNav delivery system streamlines and simplifies TAVI procedures for physicians and helps with better valve placement and performance for patients, giving them a more robust set of solutions to treat this condition,” said Payal Agrawal, General Manager, Emerging Asia, and Korea, Abbott. “This latest and important product represents another milestone in Abbott’s mission to provide the most comprehensive treatment options to address cardiovascular conditions and improve quality of life so people can get back to doing the things they love,” she added.
