A Survey by Thomas Cook India and Sotc Travel Indicates Heightened Importance of Travel Insurance Post Pandemic

Mumbai, November 29, 2022: Thomas Cook (India) Limited – India’s leading omnichannel travel services company and its Group Company, SOTC Travel’s recent survey reveals significant customer requirement for travel insurance for both international and domestic destinations. The survey covered over 1000 consumers spread across India’s top metros and prime cities like Mumbai, Delhi, Bangaluru, Kolkata, Pune, Ahmedabad, Lucknow, Jaipur, Chennai, Hyderabad, Surat, Indore, Bhopal, Patna, Tiruchirappalli, Madurai, Nagpur, Bhubaneswar, Chandigarh, Mysuru, Coimbatore, Visakhapatnam, Guwahati, etc. While the pandemic created increased need for travel insurance, the continued demand reflects the growing maturity of the Indian market.

The data analysis has revealed valuable insights on customer requirements related to travel insurance:

  • Strong requirement: 86% of respondents showcased travel insurance as a necessity in the post-pandemic era as compared to 75% of respondents highlighting Health & Safety as the primary concern from the First Holiday Readiness Travel Report (May 2020); while 80% are keen on availing travel insurance for themselves/their family even if it was not mandatory during their travel or while obtaining visas
  • Covid 19 coverage: Covid-19-related coverage including hospitalization, treatment, and quarantine is essential for 69% of the respondents while planning their travel
  • Insurance preference: Significant share of insurance preference is for international destinations (60%) while 38% of respondents are interested in taking travel insurance for both domestic and international destinations; from less than 1% pre-pandemic to approx 20% currently for domestic destinations
  • Crucial factors while selecting travel insurance:
    • Features – insurance coverage features such as cancellation, delay, pre-existing medical conditions, Covid 19 cover, hotel quarantine, and emergency hotel extensions continue to be a top priority for over 50% of the respondents while considering travel insurance
    • Coverage costs – expenses play a major role while considering travel insurance as 20% indicated that the insurance pricing should be reasonable
    • Sum insured – it is essential too as highlighted by 7% of the respondents
    • Insurance company – the name of the insurance company or reputation in the market is considered important by 18%
    • Additional factors – claim settlement percentage, cashless hospitalisation, flight/trip cancellation, hassle-free reimbursement, delay, lost luggage/theft and reliability are also important factors

Mr. Abraham Alapatt, President & Group Head – Marketing, Service Quality, Value Added Services & Innovation, Thomas Cook (India) and SOTC Travel said, “The pandemic changed several norms in the travel industry with health and protection gaining importance. The fact that customers continue to see value in comprehensive travel insurance is to my mind, less an indicator of continuing concerns about the pandemic and more to do with a more mature customer mindset. This is more akin to customers in mature economies, where travel insurance is seen as a “must have” and not just a “good to have”.

Given India’s rapidly maturing economy – our customers understandably, are seeing value (beyond the pandemic) in comprehensive travel insurance to ensure their safety and security while travelling.”

American Oncology Institute’s (AOI) ropes in Star Boxer Mary Kom for its ‘Early Cancer Detection’ awareness Campaign

29th Nov 2022, Mumbai: American Oncology Institute (AOI), one of the largest cancer hospital chains in South Asia has associated with Mary Kom, the chairperson of the Athletes Commission of the Indian Olympic Association (IOA) for its “Early Detection of Cancer” Campaign. The campaign aims at spreading awareness about early detection of cancer and regular screening across the country, including the Northeast which has the highest incidence of cancer.

According to the NCRP report 2020, about 1.5 million new cancer cases are projected every year in India and yet awareness levels on regular screening remain abysmally low. The country also has the majority of patients with advanced disease (Stage 3-4) at the time of diagnosis. Hence, early detection is imperative to detect the signs and symptoms as early as possible.

Therefore, as part of this campaign, AOI in association with Mary Kom has further launched a short film in public health interest. The film beautifully captures the essence of early cancer diagnosis and draws public attention to regular screening for Cancer by using terms like “think before time” and “act before time”.

Pleased on the association, Mary Kom said, “Just as for an athlete one of the most important things is to be well prepared for every situation, to be able to beat your opponent and win the game, the same is with cancer where early diagnosis is much like developing your defensive skills. In fact, regular screening increases chances of detecting certain cancers early.”

She further added, “With Cancer, the earlier you detect the condition, the higher are the chances of a better outcome. It’s like knowing every move of your opponent. Through this association, I hope to spread the importance of early detection of cancer and empower each and every individual so that they are well prepared and lead a healthy life.”

AOI regularly organises free cancer screening camps across its 16 units and has successfully screened 10,000+ people. Through this awareness campaign, AOI intends to reach enough and more people to highlight the importance of early detection of Cancer. This also reinforces the commitment of AOI’s tagline “we journey with you” by educating and empowering the masses.

Speaking about early detection, Dr Jagprag Singh Gujral, Group CEO, CTSI, South Asia, said, “With the increasing rate of cancer in the country, it is imperative to spread awareness about early detection and diagnosis of various types of cancers. We are glad to be associated with Mary Kom for the enormous task of voicing out the importance of regular screening and early detection of Cancer which can significantly improve survival rates and outcomes. AOI has always remained at the core of offering precision cancer care solutions and with this association; we take a step ahead in our commitment.”

Tina Choudhury, Campaign Lead, CTSI South Asia, said, “Awareness is the key to early detection of Cancer which also resonates in all our brand campaigns. To amplify our brand’s messaging further, we are delighted to have associated with Mary Kom. She is the true advocate to drive our brand narration on ‘early detection’ while connecting it with her boxing principles of moving before the opponent hits or being prepared. We believe that she will be the perfect motivator to encourage people for early diagnosis of cancer and regular screening.”

The video will be further released across social media platforms in 5+ regional and vernacular languages. The digital campaign is already live across AOI’s social media channels and released in 10+ states in the form of outdoor and other in-house advertising.

Hate and Reconciliation: Approaches to Fostering Relationships between People and Peace now available from Histria Books

Histria Books is pleased to announce the release of Hate and Reconciliation: Approaches to Fostering Relationships between People and Peace by Guido Cuyvers. The book is published by Vita Histria, an academic imprint of Histria Books dedicated to outstanding scholarly works in a variety of fields.

Hate and Reconciliation address a profoundly human problem. In society and even on a global level, hatred is, again and again, the motor of misunderstanding and often also of violence between people. Sometimes hate smolders almost unconsciously; at other times, it is furious and serves as a flag for serious violence. Hatred has many faces and seems omnipresent. The term “Erida complex,” after the Greek goddess of hate, symbolizes the common and deeply rooted nature of hatred. Hatred is mighty as a destructive force. Erida, however, cannot compete with Irene, the goddess and the symbol of peace. As the author demonstrates, hatred is impotent against the positive freedom of people to transcend the negative. Those who are open to this will see many Iranian initiatives. Hatred does not and should not have the last word.

After examining the nature of hate, Hate and Reconciliation focuses a wide-angle lens on its many faces, in individuals and groups, as well as in peoples. Facing the negativity of hatred, the author presents constructive approaches to fostering relationships between people and peace that make the book essential reading for anyone interested in addressing these fundamental problems of human existence.

The author, Guido Cuyvers is a distinguished Belgian scholar. He is affiliated with Thomas More Kempen University College, Department of Social Work, as a lecturer and researcher, and was formerly head of the department.

Hate and Reconciliation: Approaches to Fostering Relationships between People and Peace, 268 pp., Hardcover, Illustrated, Index ISBN 978-1-59211-181-7, is available at HistriaBooks.com and from all major book retailers. The book is also available in eBook and audiobook formats. Titles published under the various imprints of Histria Books are distributed worldwide by the Independent Publishers Group (IPG). Canadian International School students perform at the Choir Festival in The Hague, Netherlands

Bangalore, November 29, 2022: In what was a great exposure to and experience of another country, culture, and music, nine students of Canadian International School (CIS) were honored to participate in the AMIS Elementary Honor Choir Festival in The Hague, the Netherlands, held recently. The fourth and fifth grade students travelled with Mr. Harold Thomas, CIS Grade 5 Homeroom Teacher, and Mrs. Barbara Thomas, CIS Music and Choir Teacher, and spent two days rehearsing with guest conductor, Nyssa Brown. They also interacted with the composer of one of the songs, Douglas Beam, and worked remotely with Maria Ellis, Girl Conductor. The students performed two times – once for the public and once for music teachers at the conference.

In the midst of their concerts, the students also found time for sightseeing in Amsterdam and The Hague. The students rode a city tour bus, visited the Rijksmuseum, took a canal cruise, and saw the Escher Museum and historical windmill. They rode city buses, trams, trains and the subway together, not to mention the five nights of dinners together, sharing rooms and enjoying each other’s company.

Speaking about the experience in the Netherlands, student Seolah, Canadian International School, said: “It was a great experience that I got to sing with friends, all around the world. I really enjoyed performing in front of the audience. We met Mr. Beam, the composer of one of songs, ‘When the Tide.’ Ms. Maria taught us how we could make the song better, and she taught us the movement of Rejoice. I thank Ms. Brown (our main conductor), Ms. Barbara and Mr. Thomas who brought us to the Netherlands.”

“While I was in the Netherlands, I made new friends from different schools and it was a great experience for me. I also loved the museums. And thank you, my teachers for giving me the confidence to perform at the concert,” said CIS student Navika.

Commenting on the student’s trip to The Hague, Ms. Shweta Shastri, Managing Director of Canadian International School, said: “I am very proud and excited that our students had a great trip to the Netherlands. Participating in the AMIS Choir Festival is an enriching experience: it is an opportunity to pursue students’ passions beyond school, be better musicians, develop their understanding and appreciation of music while discovering the world and having unique, multicultural, and positive experiences. I am sure that our Choir will participate in more festivals in the future.”
