Ashraf Motiwala’s ‘Faith Collection’; at Sublime Galleria, India’s First Mid-Air Art Gallery

Bengaluru,  November 2022: Sublime Galleria, India’s First Mid- Air Art Gallery recently announced its exclusive association with the fourth-generation legacy jeweler Ashraf Motiwala. With this partnership, AS Motiwala is announcing the arrival of their new jewelry collection ‘FAITH’ with Luke Coutinho, the Lifestyle medicine practitioner. The exhibit will take place from 25th to 27th November 2022 at Bengaluru’s perfect venue.

Founded by Ms. Uzma Irfan in 2009, Sublime Galleria is the perfect platform to display the brand’s unique creativity and showcase rich culture. Similarly, Faith is a collection curated with the intention to create something that would last with its wearers for a lifetime. A selection of contemporary bijoux, Faith consolidates women with their true selves from noon to the moon, boardroom to brunch.

The curated collection of priceless pieces is instilled with a powerful message. Empowering words have been selected to guide, encourage, heal, and comfort you on your quest toward holistic living. Each word has been chosen wisely after a great deal of care to reflect what we firmly believe in. Love, Hope, Believe, Abundance, Gratitude, Peace, and Faith form an integral chapter in the betterment of your life.

During the journey of discovery, Ashraf chanced upon the universally recognized symbol – Ensō, which became the perfect introduction to the creation of India’s first Affirmation Accessory.

“My team and I searched for the perfect symbol to represent our new signature brand. The Ensō contains the perfect and imperfect; that is why it is always complete. This symbolism resonated for both of us as the circle signifies unity and completion. Perfect balance. But what makes the Ensō more intriguing is that it is not perfect at all. It is rough, messy, and at times not even complete,” said Ashraf Motiwala.

Ms. Uzma Irfan, Founder of Sublime Galleria said, “Bengaluru is a city that always had an edge to recognize and showcase unique creative talents. Therefore at Sublime Galleria, we constantly try to share the opportunity to offer a glimpse of unique, creative & kind projects. Through our gallery and the many programs it offers, we work to preserve and make society more receptive to the vital role that art plays in our diverse culture. The Faith exhibition is one such opportunity that will reflect our special association, and synergy and display a beautiful range of exquisite collections.”

With these Affirmation Accessories, we intend to create something that would last with its wearers for a lifetime. It can also be passed down through generations allowing this legacy of positivity to continue forever. With this Affirmation Accessory, we invite you to join our movement toward holistic living.

Centre in High Tech Protected Cropping Systems launched to climate-proof crop production

Bangalore, November 2022: Western Sydney University, the Indian Council for Agricultural Research (ICAR), the Indian Institute of Horticultural Research (IIHR) Bangalore, and the Indian Institute for Spices Research (IISR) Calicut, have partnered to launch a Centre in High Tech Protected Cropping Systems to address the impact of the changing climate on crop production.

The Centre will investigate hi-tech aeroponic crop production, crop health monitoring technologies with advanced sensors and cameras, and ways to standardize pollination as part of a pilot, with a focus on innovation in aeroponics for high-value crops such as microgreens, berries, cut flowers, and spices under different lighting and nutrient conditions.

“This is an important pilot for finding cost-effective farming that is not climate dependent,” the Deputy Director General of ICAR, A K Singh said. “Production using automated glass house technology is too expensive for large-scale adoption in India. Working with Western Sydney University and other partners, we have an opportunity to bring together world-class researchers from Australia and India to standardize production systems for high-value crops like berries, greens, cut flowers, and spices,” he said.

“The collaboration builds on the very productive partnership between the University and the Indian Council for Agricultural Research,” said Western Sydney University Vice-Chancellor and President, Professor Barney Glover AO. “Through cutting-edge research, the Centre will explore new, sustainable approaches to production to enhance food security and farming livelihood,” said Professor Glover.

“This partnership in vegetables, berries, and cut flowers at the IIHR and in spices at the IISR, plays a critical role in developing efficient, low-cost vertical growing systems for large-scale adoption – sustainable farming technologies for the future,” said Dr. Debi Sharma, Director, IIHR.

Dr. Thankamony, Director of IISR said, “Vertical farming can ensure high productivity in spaces per unit area, which means 50-60 percent more harvest per unit area. However, these resources can only be effectively leveraged when adapted to Indian conditions, requiring a targeted research and development program.”

The Centre in High Tech Protected Cropping Systems will address increasing the farming community’s produce and thereby their income. The research programs will be managed by Dr. Debi Sharma, Director, of IIHR, Dr. Thankamoni, Director, of IISR, and Dr. Nisha Rakhesh, Senior Advisor (Research Strategy), at Western Sydney University.

Western Sydney University was recently ranked number one in the world for its social, ecological, and economic impact in the Times Higher Education (THE) University Impact Rankings.

As part of its global mission, it is committed to collaborating with industry, education, and non-government partners to tackle society’s grand challenges and support a more just and equitable world through teaching, research, outreach, and stewardship.

As the world advances, technology has taken over life, and to minimize its effect on children, Tenbroeck gives importance to extracurricular activities like dance, art, and music. There is clinically significant evidence that children who participate actively in the performing arts spend less time sitting in front of a computer screen playing games and therefore are at less of a risk of developing health problems. This Kalaatta Initiative not only inspires the children to grow and learn more through art but also has inspired the thought of how holistic development can be inculcated in school.

The children were trained to perform various traditional dance forms of India like Yakshagana, Kamsale, Dhollu Kunitha, Goan Dance, Dandiya, Bhangra, and many more. The enthusiastic tiny tots who were 186 (grades 1 to 5) in number performed an astounding piece in four batches.

Kidney Cancer: Causes, Diagnosis & Treatment

Prof. Dr. Raj Nagarkar, MD & Chief of Surgical Oncology and Robotic Services, HCG Manavata Cancer Centre, Nasik

Kidneys form one of vital organs in the human body, the major contributors to our physical wellbeing. These bean-shaped organs, about the size of a fist, are located on either side of the spine and carry out primary bodily functions like purifying the blood, flushing out toxins, and maintaining electrolyte and fluid balance. When malignant cells start growing in kidneys, it is defined as Kidney Cancer or Renal Cell Carcinoma, one of the top 10 diagnosed cancers worldwide in adults, in all genders.

Kidney cancer is an abnormal growth of malignant cells in either or both kidneys that clump together, forming a mass. Contrary to the belief, not all kidney tumours are cancerous. They can either be benign, malignant, or indolent – meaning latent. If the tumour turns out to be malignant, it is categorized under Kidney Cancer. If not treated on time, these cells not only interfere with the functioning of the kidneys but also spread to other nearby organs and result in fatality.

Treating Kidney cancer demands medical specialists with world-class expertise, including nephrologists, oncologists, surgical oncologists, and radiologists.

Symptoms of Kidney Cancer

Unlike other cancers, Kidney cancer doesn’t present with any significant signs and symptoms in the initial stages. However, if you notice the following changes in the body, meet your doctor immediately.

  • Excruciating pain in the back that doesn’t go away with rest and medication
  • Sudden loss of appetite and aversion toward food
  • Unintended weight loss
  • Fever
  • Nausea and tiredness
  • Bleeding in urine

Causes

The reasons behind Kidney cancer are not defined as one or multiple causative factors. Kidney cancer can be caused by certain mutations in the kidney cells which cause changes in the structure of the DNA. These changes might trigger cell growth and mutate faster, leading to further accumulation that may grow beyond these vital organs and metastasize. However, the other risk factors include:

  • Old age
  • Smoking and indiscriminate use of tobacco
  • Overweight
  • High blood pressure
  • Getting treated for kidney failure. Patients on prolonged dialysis are at risk of kidney cancer.
  • Family history or inherited syndromes like von Hippel-Lindau disease, Birt-Hogg-Dube syndrome, tuberous sclerosis complex, hereditary papillary renal cell carcinoma, or familial renal cancer.

Types of Kidney Cancer

There are many types of Kidney cancer, which are categorized based on the malignant cells’ behaviour, structure, and mutations.

· Renal Cell Carcinoma:

It is the most common type of Kidney cancer diagnosed among adults. It develops in the proximal renal tubes, thus disrupting the filtration process.

· Urothelial Cell Carcinoma:

Also defined as Transitional Cell Carcinoma, this is a rare type that starts in the renal pelvis, an area where urine gets accumulates before getting transported into the urinary bladder.

· Sarcoma:

A sporadic type of Kidney Cancer, Sarcoma, happens in the soft tissue layering the connective tissue around the kidneys and spreads to other parts of the day at a rapid rate.

· Wilms Tumour:

Diagnosed often in children, Wilms Tumour is also known as Nephroblastoma. Though a rare type of cancer, it is usually detected in children aged between 3 to 5 and is less common as they age.

· Lymphoma:

Lymphoma happens when lymph nodes get enlarged and affect the kidneys. Lymphoma increases the size of the kidneys and presents as a lone mass in the kidney.

Diagnosis

Kidney cancer is diagnosed by running blood and urine tests and coordinating the results with imaging tests, including Ultrasound, X-Ray, PET-CT, and MRI. A biopsy sample – extracting a small sample of cells or tissue from the affected area and testing it later under the microscope helps understand malignant cells’ behaviour, structure, and mutations, based on which staging is done.

Treatment

The first step towards treating Kidney cancer is surgery. The surgical may remove the entire affected kidney – complete nephrectomy or only the part of the diseased kidney – partial nephrectomy.

In the case of smaller tumours, non-surgical treatment options like Cryoablation – freezing of cancer cells or radiofrequency ablation – heating or burning the cancer cells is also an option.

The other treatment options include radiation therapy, immunotherapy, and targeted therapy.

Chances of Reoccurrence

There are chances for Kidney cancer to recur, and it is often detected within the first three years of treatment. Maintain a healthy lifestyle, practice nutritional eating habits, quit smoking, keep up with your doctor’s appointments, and take medications on time to prevent a recurrence.

Remember, early diagnosis plays a crucial role in combating cancer. So, if you ever notice any unusual symptoms like the one mentioned in this article, see your doctor immediately.
