Foxconn joins Vedanta Delhi Half Marathon with 25-member team

South Indian Bank launches its first Digital Banking Unit in Thrissur, Kerala

The South Indian Bank has announced the launch of its first Digital Banking Unit (DBU) in Thrissur, Kerala. It is one of 75 units dedicated to the nation by the Hon’ble Prime Minister Narendra Modi through video conference. Along with the PM, the event was graced by RBI Governor Shaktikanta Das; Finance Minister Smt. Nirmala Sitharaman; Shri Sanjay Malhotra, Secretary, Department of Financial Services (DFS) and all the centers of Digital Banking Units.

Speaking on this occasion, Murali Ramakrishan, MD & CEO, South Indian Bank, said “DBU is the need of the hour as it will provide people from Tier-II, III, IV towns, etc., with access to the formal banking system. It will increase penetration and bring more people into the financial mainstream. We feel humbled to be given the opportunity to kick start the movement with the unit in Chalakudy, Thrissur district. We will be partnering with more digital entities, FinTech players, and financial aggregators to carry the DBU movement across India.” 

The Hon’ble Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman announced the concept of digital-only branches while delivering the Union Budget for 2022-23. DBUs will be specialized banking hubs that will deliver digital-only banking services in both assisted and self-service modes. These units would house certain minimal technological infrastructure for delivering digital banking products and services as well as servicing existing financial products and services digitally. This will enable customers to have cost-effective/convenient access and enhanced digital experience to/of such products and services in an efficient, paperless, secured, and the connected environment with most services being available in self-service mode at any time, all year round. The purpose of DBU is to blend digital infrastructure with the human touch.

Earlier this year, to mark the 75th year of our Independence, Central Government announced setting up of 75 Digital Banking Units across 75 districts of the country, by scheduled commercial banks. South Indian Bank is allotted the license to establish and operate a DBU in Thrissur district.

Critically injured children need to be managed in pediatric trauma centers for good outcomes, says study

Bangalore 17 October 22: On the occasion of “World Trauma Day” on October 17th, Paediatric trauma experts raise concerns about safety regulations for children to prevent life-threatening injuries. Paediatric trauma experts from Bangalore and Chennai shared the reports of the research of the profile of critically injured children as part of a multi-centre observational study – TRIP study (Trauma Research in Paediatrics).  Experts from St John’s Medical College, Aster RV Hospital and Aster CMI Hospital, Rainbow children Hospital (Marathalli), Bangalore Baptist Hospital, Sparsh Hospital (Yeshwantpur) from Bangalore and Apollo children’s Hospital, SRMC, SIMS (Vadapalani), KKTCH and ICH from Chennai were part of the study. The study spanning over 2 years with data collection from July 2020 to September 2022 showed nearly 260 critically injured children were admitted to the paediatric intensive care during this time in 10 centres that participated in the study.

Key findings of the TRIP study:

  1. 45% of them were under the 5 years age group, followed by 20% in 5-10 years.
  2. 70% of the injured kids were males.
  3. Road Traffic accidents and falls from height >10ft top the list of critical head injuries
  4. Spillage of hot liquids and electricity burns common in critical burns admissions
  5. The majority 64% were brought by ambulance to the trauma centre, but a significant number arrived in their own vehicles or autos without medical supervision
  6. 10% of critically injured children died during hospitalization
  7. Interventions such as the need for Oxygenation (16%) and intubation and ventilation (17%) on arrival and a further 20% requiring immediate airway and breathing stabilization in ER following arrival were noted.
  8. 28% of critically injured children required blood product transfusion of which 7 children (2.6%) had massive transfusions for life-threatening bleeding.
  9. Traumatic brain injuries were observed in 70% of cases of which 25% were of severe grade and 13 % of such children required emergency neurosurgery.

 Stressing the need to make optimum use of the golden hour, Dr Sujatha Thyagarajan, Lead of Paediatrics & Paediatric Intensive care at Aster RV Hospital, Bangalore, and the primary investigator of the TRIP study said “Injuries in children can be of variable severity, minor to life-threatening requiring specialist trauma services and intensive care services. Children have poor reserves to cope with severe injuries and hence children need to be managed in the right place at the right time to provide good outcomes. There is a concept of golden hour and platinum minutes to save a life in trauma. However, the majority of the time, an injured child is taken to the nearest medical facility which may even be a clinic with the capacity for only First-aid care to multiple hospital facilities that lack paediatric trauma expertise. This can lead to severe time traps, especially to a critically injured child leading to devastating outcomes.”

 “Child safety is a priority especially at home to prevent falls from heights and accidental hot-liquid spillage or electrical burns in children.” quoted Dr. Lalitha A.V, Professor and HOD of PICU at St John’s Hospital, Bangalore, and the Co-primary Investigator for TRIP study.

“It is the collective moral responsibility of the public including parents, teachers, caregivers, and the government to protect children from life-threatening injuries which is a preventable cause of death.” Said Dr Lakshmi KS, PICU consultant at Bangalore Baptist Hospital.

“There is an urgent need for up-regulating road safety standards especially involving motorbikes” said Dr Deepak, PICU Consultant at Rainbow Children’s Hospital, Marathalli, Bangalore.

“Public vigilance and awareness are warranted to ensure the child is transferred safely via ambulance to the nearest pediatric trauma care center.” said Dr Anil M.U, PICU Lead at Sparsh Hospital, Yeshwantpur.

BPCL rolls out second phase of setting up EV Charging Stations in Southern India

Bangalore, October 17, 2022:  Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL), a ‘Maharatna’ and a Fortune Global 500 Company, today announced the launch of EV Fast-Charging stations on two corridors in the southern region of India i.e. Bangalore-Chennai and Bangalore-Mysore-Coorg Highway, revealed at an event in Bangalore.

The fast chargers follow the CCS-2 protocol and are strategically located at nine of its fuel stations with an approximate distance of 100 Km on both sides of the routes.

BPCL plans to provide CCS-2 EV charging stations at its fuel pumps at periodic intervals on all major national highways connecting major cities and economic centres in the country. The Chennai-Trichy-Madurai highway was part of the first phase.

The installation of 25 KW fast charger will enable customers to discover and charge their EVs in about 30 minutes to enjoy travel range of upto 125 Km along with the convenience of BPCL’s user friendly payment mobile application HelloBPCL. The fast charger can be self-operated without any manual assistance, however support staff help will be available, if and when needed.

Speaking at the launch of the EV Fast-Charging Corridors, P.S. Ravi, Executive Director In-charge (Retail), BPCL said “The growth of Indian electric vehicle market has been significant over the years and the launch of our EV Fast-Charging Corridors on the Bangalore-Chennai Highway and Bangalore-Mysore-Coorg Highway is aligned with India’s EV dream of transitioning to cleaner alternatives. Our leading edge in providing “superior” solution and experiences will serve our EV customers along the two new corridors and will provide a Pure for Sure experience in this exciting journey of electric mobility.“

which will also include EV charging facility, in the medium to long term.

Select fuel stations also offer Nitrogen filling facility.
