Apollo Hospitals lauds police constable Dawa Naveena for her exemplary deed of saving a precious life with CPR!

Apollo Hospitals lauds police constable Dawa Naveena for her exemplary deed of saving a precious life with CPR!

Hyderabad, September 28th, 2022: The police constable Dawa Naveena, who saved a precious life with her exemplary deed, was felicitated at Apollo Hospitals, Jubilee Hills, today. Mr. Y Subramanyam, Regional CEO, Apollo Hospitals; while felicitating Naveena, lauded her presence of mind and persistence in reviving an unconscious and unresponsive woman, through CPR (Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation), till she became conscious.

The 2020 batch constable Dawa Naveena revived a woman housekeeping staff Ranjitha after she fainted and was badly injured in the stampede that occurred last week at Gymkhana Grounds. The charging crowd, on the opening of the gates of Gymkhana ground for sale of tickets for India, Australia match, ran over and virtually crushed Ranjita. Naveena, who was on duty there, with her presence of mind intervened to save Ranjita. She found her unconscious and unresponsive, without wasting a second, Naveena administered CPR, in which she was trained by the Police Department. Despite the continuous effort, Ranjita didn’t revive, but Naveena persisted till she became conscious and later ensured her admission into a hospital for further treatment.

Dawa Naveena said, because of the stampede several women were lying down, we shifted them from there. This lady was also lying unconscious and people started attempting to revive her and took her to be dead. I did CPR and after five or ten minutes she became conscious later we shifted her to the hospital.

Commending Police Constable Dawa Naveena, Dr. Sangita Reddy said, Dawa Naveena needs to be eulogized for her act of saving a precious life of a woman in the utmost distress. Her persistence to revive the person despite not having success is to be extolled. Since Apollo Hospitals for the first time initiated CPR and lifesaving training in Hyderabad in 1996 as part of emergency care, several underwent the training, but only a few like Naveena use their learning to save lives. She is a true epitome of inspiration and following in her footsteps could save several precious lives.

Mr. Y Subramanyamwhatever Naveena learned, she practiced and saved someone’s life and that is truly fulfilling. Apollo Hospitals trained several citizens from all walks of life in Basic Life Support, including corporate, police, school children, etc. Those trained in Basic Life Support (BLS) can save lives and later send them for further medical management to a medical facility. We are proud of Naveena for her deed of saving somebody’s life and there can’t be anything more important. We want more and more people to learn this and help save people.

Dr. Ravindra Babu, Director Medical Services, Apollo Hospitals, Jubilee Hills; the pre hospitalisation care in case of an emergency determines the final outcome and patient’s ability to recover. In such circumstances, the golden period is limited to five minutes and during the such time if we can perform Basic Life Support the patient’s recovery and his brain recovery chances improve. Immediate response by laymen trained in BLS at the accident site can enhance a patient’s chances of recovery and survival. Because Naveena was trained in Basic Life Support, she could perform it and save the patient. It’s not about taking the patient to the hospital, but performing BLS prior to that is critical for patient survival.

Dr. Imron, Head Emergency Medicine, Apollo Hospitals, Jubilee Hills, said, at least one person from each family should be trained in Basic Life Support, CPR, and first aid skills, in case of any emergency in the city or home or office, the patient can be given first aid and will be alive till he reaches a hospital for further medical care.

In its effort to spread awareness of this life-saving skill, Apollo hospitals conduct BLS training sessions regularly at major organizations and corporates. It is heartening to see the results bear fruit and life being saved.

Mr Y Subramanyam, Regional CEO, Apollo Hospitals; Mr. Tejaswi Rao, COO, Apollo Hospitals, Jubilee Hills &; graced the occasion.

Andheri to Malad corridor

Andheri to Malad corridor: Western suburbs’ attractive real estate hotspot

Mumbai is witnessing a considerable infrastructural boom that will change the façade of the city and fuel a deluge of real estate possibilities. According to the latest Knight Frank India assessment, in the month of August 2022, the property market in Mumbai witnessed property sale registrations of 8149 units. Western suburbs’ share in the total registrations in August 2022 rose from 56 percent in July to 57 percent.

In the western suburbs, the Andheri to Malad corridor is vastly conquered by high-rise buildings and one such location that is largely preferred by homebuyers and investors alike. This region is the macro market that has been witnessing a significant increase in the average value of units sold.

Commenting on the prominence of this belt Mr. Umesh Jandial, Head – Sales & CRM, Omkar Realtors said, “The Andheri to Malad belt sits in the land of comforts and conveniences and therefore it is the most preferred choice of the modern homebuyers. This belt as a micro market is holding strong on rental yield and ROI factor. Projects offering ease of commute to business districts and BKC from this location are witnessing premium quotient and strong demand. The location is also in close proximity to Western Express Highway, Metro lines, and upcoming Coastal Road along with excellent connectivity to the airport; it provides easy access to various parts of the city. The region also enjoys an established social infrastructure with schools, hospitals, and other lifestyle avenues. Located close to the lush greens of the Sanjay Gandhi National Park, it offers you an enhanced living experience.”

The corridor is seamlessly connected to the CBDs of Andheri, BKC via the western express highway as well as to the upmarket areas of Powai and Vikhroli through the Jogeshwari-Vikhroli Link Road. Currently, Jogeshwari Vikhroli Link Road (JVLR) is the key link that connects the eastern & western suburbs of Mumbai. Soon there will be another link in the form of Goregaon Mulund Link Road which will ease the east-west connectivity and traffic congestion on JVLR. Hence, the highway netizens, mainly the business community, are tremendously saving on their travel time.

Commenting on the real estate growth in the area, Mr. Himanshu Jain, VP – Sales, Marketing & CRM, Satellite Developers Pvt. Ltd. said, “The region offers the homebuyers with a mix of affordable as well as luxurious properties. The region is one of the most upcoming and prominent residential and commercial hubs that most property buyers are now moving towards. The suburb has seen growth in not just residential development but also in commercial development with a few corporates choosing it as their new headquarters which is the foremost reason it has witnessed a realty boom in the last few years. Also, owning a house near the workplace is a dream for homebuyers especially millennials due to the hustle of traffic. Therefore due to the commercial advantage, many developers are coming up with projects in this region that intend to reduce the office traveling to zilch. Nowadays, homebuyers to prefer to stay in studio apartments or compact homes if it is in the vicinity of their respective workspace which also allows them to spend quality time with their family.”

Describing the transformation of the region, Ms. Shraddha Kedia-Agarwal, Director, Transcon Developers said, “The Andheri to Malad belt is one of Mumbai’s popular suburbs that enjoy excellent connectivity and a robust social infrastructure. The suburbs’ skyline has completely transformed with several high-rises that offer stunning views of the natural and splendid surroundings in the region. The location also enjoys excellent connectivity to Bandra-Worli Sea Link and Western Express Highway with both domestic and international airports. With innumerable infrastructural developments like the Metro rail, GMLR, and the coastal road in progress, it is definitely emerging as a prominent realty destination.”

Together with the fast-paced developments in the area and the privileged living, all these unique facets make Andheri-Malad one of the most attractive stretches to live in the western suburbs of Mumbai.

Wiley cancer

Pediatric Early Warning Systems for children with cancer a success in Latin American Hospitals

Lessons learned from this effort can inform future programs to improve cancer outcomes worldwide.

Pediatric Early Warning Systems (PEWS)—bedside tools used by nurses to assess the health of hospitalized children and identify urgent medical issues—are not widely used in resource-limited hospitals, in part due to challenges with implementation. A recent article published by Wiley online in CANCER, a peer-reviewed journal of the American Cancer Society, reports on a successful collaboration to support implementation of a PEWS for children with cancer in Latin American hospitals.

In 2017, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital partnered with pediatric oncology centers in Latin America to initiate Proyecto Escala de Valoración de Alerta Temprana (EVAT). St. Jude’s Asya Agulnik, MD, MPH, and her colleagues reported that from April 2017 to October 2021, 36 diverse hospitals from 13 countries in Latin America collectively managing more than 4,100 annual new pediatric cancer diagnoses successfully implemented PEWS through Proyecto EVAT.

Centers required an average of seven months to complete the implementation, and all of them—despite challenges of geography, language, and the COVID-19 pandemic—maintained high-quality PEWS use for up to 18 months after implementation. Across the 36 centers, more than 11,100 clinicians were trained in PEWS and more than 41,000 hospitalized children had PEWS used in their care.

“This is the first multicenter, multinational study reporting a successful implementation strategy to regionally scale-up PEWS,” said Dr. Agulnik. “The strategy used by Proyecto EVAT to regionally scale-up PEWS in these 36 resource-limited centers can be generalized to facilitate implementation of other interventions that improve patient outcomes in centers of all resource levels. We hope that lessons learned from this work can broadly inform future programs to promote adoption of interventions to improve cancer outcomes globally.”

Of note, a commentary published earlier this month in CANCER summarizes the top advances in pediatric cancer over the past 12 months. These pediatric cancer advances focus on solid tumor, brain tumor, leukemia, recurrent disease, and residual disease.
