Avoid Online Frauds during this Durga Puja

Durga Puja is a major Hindu festival that celebrates the victory of good over evil. It is also a time when many people shop for new clothes, gifts, and food. With the increase in online shopping, there is a directly proportional increase in cyber frauds and scams in form of offers/discounts/gifts. In today’s world every individual is busy, which is why Online shopping is in trend than the age old in-store shopping which also provides the best offers and discounts. Unfortunately, the holiday season is frequently a haven for cybercriminals, who easily take advantage of the greed to launch a variety of scams.

When internet criminals continue to get more clever and smart in their methods of victimizing consumers, it can be challenging to stay safe online. Fortunately, one can avoid online buying fraud by following the tips below penned by Mr Hrithik Lall, Chief Technical Officer, IEMLabs.

  1. Customer Service Fake Calls

These scams usually involve someone posing as a customer service representative from a popular online shopping app or bank. They will then ask for your personal information, such as your name, address, and bank account number. Once they have this information, they can use it to fraudulently access your accounts or make unauthorized charges on your credit card.

Such an incident was reported to the Cyber Crime Department, where a user lost 150000 INR from his account after paying just 10 INR as misguided by the Criminals on the opposite side of the phone.

Tip: Do not share any type of details to anyone via any means.

  1. Gift cards with discounts

Consumers anticipate buying gift cards this holiday season in 73% of cases. This indicates that many consumers are searching for gift cards for their friends and family. However, scammers have discovered that shoppers like to purchase discounted gift cards at this time of year. This interest of buyers helps them to use fake promotional offers to trick them into parting with their money.

A gift card offer can often be identified as fake by looking for a request for banking information. Banks and retailers will not ask for this information.

Emails with suspicious links consumers often receive special offers and deals via email during the holiday season. Retailers are likely to send you real emails this season, much like their gift card offers. However, there will still be some sketchy emails you should look out for in your inbox to avoid being scammed.

These kinds of coupons can be identified as valid only if they are received in the same app just like Amazon, and Flipkart – the trusted ones.

Tip: Avoid clicking on links from unrecognized sites. Users are now being redirected to pages asking for personal information for identity theft using malicious links in fake shopping emails. Ransomware can be installed on your device using these pages as well.  Also, do not

respond to an offer if it requires too much information. Generally, if an offer does not ask for banking information, it is safe, but you should still contact the retailer to ensure it is legitimate.

  1. Fictitious coupon websites

A frequent consumer will probably look for discount codes before purchasing from an online retailer. Coupon codes are a great way to save some money online, but if you look for discounts from the wrong places, getting them could get you into trouble.

It appears harmless enough that many websites will offer you free discounts after you complete a “short survey,” but the survey landing pages are frequently made to steal your data or infect your device with malware.

Tip: You can find out if a website is verified by doing an internet search for the company’s name and checking their Facebook page. If there isn’t one with check marks next to it, then chances are it isn’t authorized and may be suspect! The color of these icons will either be blue or gray depending on how well-verified they are; both colors mean that this site meets the criteria but just has different levels respectively. You should also check the link’s URL format. The discount is probably invalid if it redirects you to another website or even a survey page on the same domain, so make sure that what you’re seeing in this case!

Use a unique username and password for each account you create with an online merchant to make it more difficult for hackers to access your information. Additionally, it’s a good idea to use a different email account for online shopping so you can keep your social media and shopping accounts as far away from your banking and other financial logins as possible.

Using a prepaid card for your online purchases this season rather than your debit or credit cards is another clever approach to keep your personal financial information secure. This will assist you in preventing unauthorized access to such numbers.

  1.  A malicious website redirects

Malicious URLs that install rerouting malware on your device are another way scammers are aiming to snare unwary buyers. These typically appear when you click on malicious links that were provided to you via email or text, or when you mistakenly write the incorrect URL when attempting to access a certain website. Once you’ve visited one of these pages, spyware that redirects you to bogus websites when you try to access legitimate websites, such as your online banking site or a particular merchant, will be installed.

Tip: Running Malware Protection software on your computer frequently is the greatest approach to defend yourself from this kind of hack. Fake websites frequently feature weird copy or technical issues that are uncommon on authentic websites for financial institutions or major businesses. They are also typically far poorer quality than authentic websites.

  1. Avoid Shopping on Free Wi-Fi

On public Wi-Fi, you never know who might be keeping an eye on your behavior. Wi-Fi’s used in cafes, airports, and other public places can have very few security safeguards. Because of this, it is quite simple for hackers to install specialized software and gather all the data from these networks. Given that, it would be foolish to engage in any activity that requires you to disclose financial information on these networks.

Pune, 19th September 2022: Property prices in Pune have increased by 9% YoY in Pune in the April-June quarter of 2022 amid an increase in benchmark lending rates and upward pressure on input costs owing to the ongoing geo-political tensions, as reported by online real estate company PropTiger.com backed by REA India.

Despite this spike, property prices in Pune are comparatively lower than in other major cities in India such as Mumbai, Hyderabad, Bengaluru, and Chennai.   Apart from these cities, analysis done by REA India-backed PropTiger.com also includes Ahmedabad, Kolkata, and the Delhi-National Capital Region.

Price in INR/sq. ft as of June’22

“The steep hike in property prices coupled with rising repo rates have to an extent cast a shadow on the homebuyer sentiments in Pune, which is also visible in the residential realty growth momentum that has slowed down sequentially. However, the repo rates still remain below the pre-pandemic levels of 6-7%. Along with this, the impending festive season and upward trend witnessed in office offtake will act as strong sentiment boosters for the fence-sitting buyers in Pune in near future.”  said Vikas Wadhawan, Group CFO,

Sales and new supply growth momentum in Pune slows down in the June quarter

Sales and new supply in Pune, both recorded a dip of 16% and 14% respectively in April-June 2022 quarter, as compared to the previous quarter.  Despite the decline, residential new launches and demand in Pune are 90% closer to the pre-pandemic levels of 2019. A total of 13,390 units were launched in Pune during the three-month period while 13,720 homes were sold during the quarter.

Micro-markets such as Ravet, Hinjewadi, Moshi, Tathawade, and Wakad witnessed the maximum demand in Q2 2022. The majority of sales in Hinjewadi and Moshi were concentrated in the INR 25-45 lakh price bracket, and INR 45-75 lakh price bracket in the case of Ravet, Tathawade, and Wakad. Homebuyers in Pune continued to prefer units in the 2 BHK configuration, which took a share of 53 percent in the overall sales in the city.

“Pune, though takes the second highest share in residential demand amongst the top-eight metros, the city has witnessed a 16 percent sequential drop in property sales in the quarter ending April-June 2022. With controlled new launches and an increase in property prices due to input cost pressures, Pune’s property market has been put on the back foot. Although with strong fundamentals in place and the opening up of offices will push the demand back in a positive zone in coming quarters.” said Ankita Sood, Director, and Head of Research,

Inventory overhang in Pune down to 25 months: lowest in top-8 cities after Kolkata

Developers in Pune are sitting on the highest unsold stock of 1,17,990 units, after Mumbai, as of June 30, 2022. However, while the sales velocity has moderated in the city sequentially it still remains well above the bottomed quarter of Q2 2021 owing to the second wave of the pandemic. Hence, builders are expected to take 25 months as of June 2022 to clear this unsold stock as against 44 months at the end of Q2 2021.

The platform has built-in capabilities to enable an end-to-end digital and paperless journey.  The platform uses digital capabilities such as eKYC and design, APIs (Application Programming Interfaces) developed by the TN-eGA, and machine learning capabilities. The facility aims at providing small value loans to small & marginal farmers and is designed to facilitate efficient credit flow to the unserved and underserved rural populations.

Commenting on the launch, Mr. Rajesh Bansal, Chief Executive Officer, Reserve Bank Innovation Hub (RBIH) said “In India, rural credit is closely linked to economic growth. In this context, we at RBIH have developed a pilot project for the end-to-end digitalization of the Kisan Credit Card (KCC) lending, in association with RBI. This project, now being launched in Tamil Nadu by Federal Bank with active state government participation, opens up possibilities in making frictionless credit accessible to our farmers. As more and more land and other asset ownership records get digitized, we are certain that digitally powered solutions will help credit reach the doorsteps of the most deserving segments of our society.

Our constant endeavor to humanize technology is visible in such efforts and it’s indeed a privilege for us to reinforce our commitment to improving credit flow into newer and underserved markets. I believe the journey is now well underway and a lot more of such innovations are poised to happen.”

Minimally Invasive Robotic and Laparoscopic Gastrectomy: A new ray of hope for gastric cancer

The stomach is a muscular J-shaped sac-like structure, mainly acts as reservoir for the food, located in the upper and left part of abdomen and a crucial part of the Digestive organ of gastrointestinal system. It produces enzymes (Substances that create chemical reactions) and acids (digestive juices). This mix of enzymes and digestive juices breaks down food so it can pass to our small intestine(duodenum)

Gastric cancer, also referred to as stomach cancer, can happen anywhere, in any part of the stomach (Fundus, Body, also called proximal stomach and Antrum and Pylorus also called Distal part of stomach)– where abnormal growth of malignant cells, invading the stomach and adjacent and distal organs like Liver Lung, peritoneum and Bone etc

Symptoms of Gastric Cancer

The prominent symptoms of gastric cancer include:

  • Difficulty swallowing
  • Feeling full or bloated even after eating small amounts of food
  • Heartburn or acidity
  • Indigestion coupled with nausea and vomiting
  • Severe pain in the stomach
  • Unintentional weight losse

Causes of Gastric Cancer

There is no definite reason for what could cause stomach cancer. However, the risk factors that can trigger this ailment include

  • Chronic Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease
  • Overweight
  • Consumption of low fibre diet
  • Poor eating habits like intake of food high on salts, deep fries
  • Family history
  • Infection with Helicobacter pylori
  • Chronic gastritis
  • Smoking
  • Stomach polyps

Diagnosis

The diagnosis of gastric cancer is made by running various tests, including blood tests, and imaging tests like endoscopic ultrasound, CT, PET-CT, biopsy, or Diagnostic Laparoscopy

Treatment

Surgery forms the first line of defence while combating gastric cancer (in early stages). In the last decade, the surgical techniques for treating stomach cancer have grown by leaps and bounds, providing significant relief for the patients Treating gastric cancer requires the exceptional expertise of Surgical oncologists (gastro intestinal surgeons) Over the last decade or more, the surgical treatment for gastric cancers witnessed unparalleled medical advancements, with the advent of minimally invasive procedures like Robotic, Laparoscopic Procedures that ensure a faster recovery.

What is Gastrectomy

Gastrectomy is defined as a full or partial removal of stomach for treating various medical conditions mainly for cancer

Gastrectomy is of four types – Total Gastrectomy, Subtotal Gastrectomy, Distal gastrectomy extended total gastrectomy (removal of distal food pipe) and Proximal gastrectomy

Advantages of Minimally Invasive Robotic, Laparoscopic Gastrectomy Procedures

Open surgery, laparoscopy, or Robotic Surgery; the principles involve the same – removing cancer and surrounding structures (in case of metastasis) without compromising on the cure. Minimally invasive surgical procedures provide a better outcome than open surgery in patients undergoing gastrectomy to treat gastric cancer. Extensively trained Gastrointestinal surgeons adopting either robotic or laparoscopic surgeries to ensure faster, safe and feasible alternatives to conservative open surgery.

Some of the advantages of minimally invasive procedures are:

  • Decreased postoperative pain
  • Shorter hospital stays and quicker recovery
  • Minimal scarring
  • Less strain on the immune system
  • Smaller incisions
  • Less chance of infection and hernia formation

How Is Laparoscopic Gastrectomy Performed?

Laparoscopic Gastrectomy is a widely recommended and adopted minimally invasive surgical procedure for eliminating cancer cells, even in the locally advanced stages of gastric cancer.

During the procedure, several small incisions (key holes) are made by the surgeons. Surgical instruments are sent inside for accessing the diseased part for its dissection and removal. The surgery aimed at eliminating the cancer cells, may take a little longer in comparison to open gastrectomy but the patient would recover faster due to less blood loss and pain. It has 2D vision and Ergonomics of instruments are difficult due to straight instruments

The patient would be able to resume regular duties and eat normally within a week or too

How Is Robotic Gastrectomy Performed?

Robotic-assisted gastrectomy is done by making a small incision (key hole) measuring up to 8 to 12mm, at the belly button and three other small incisions for assistant instruments at the upper abdomen. The surgeon sits at the console during the procedure, directing the robotic arms to perform the operation. These robotic arms work like human hands with absolute, accurate dexterity, finger movement, and wrist (done by surgeon hand actions transmitted through instruments with digital interactions). Even while performing the surgery, the surgeon could view a magnified, high-definition 3D view of the organs, enabling the surgeon to execute procedures like dissection, bowel connections, and stapling.

The advantages of Robotic Gastrectomy are aplenty. It is often recommended for removing Gastrointestinal stromal tumours, gastric adenocarcinoma, or even rare form of carcinoid or neuroendocrine tumours.

This procedure has lesser pain when compared to conventional open gastrectomy. Other benefits include:

  • Lesser blood loss and less transfusions
  • Reduced risk of infections
  • Early starting of feed
  • Faster return to normalcy

Since its inception, robotic surgeries have been carried out extensively in thousands of procedures across the globe. These techniques have gained widespread popularity for its positive impact on a patient’s recovery, fewer complications, and shorter stays at hospitals. If we focus on cancers in particular, these surgeries are widely used in the treatment of gastrointestinal cancers. To learn more about the benefits of robotic surgeries for gastric cancer care, you can consult an oncologist for further guidance.
