Wadhwani Foundation calls for empowering the youth with Skills for the Future on World Youth Skills Day 2022

India, 14th July 2022 – Celebrated on July 15th every year since 2014, when the United Nations instituted World Youth Skills Day (WYSD); the theme for 2022 is “Transforming Youth Skills for the Future.” WYSD highlights the vital need to equip young people with future-ready skills, making them employment ready.

With rapid technological advances and evolving socio-economic trends in the backdrop of the COVID pandemic, job roles are changing at a pace and depth that has rendered an estimated 1.3 billion people worldwide affected by a skills mismatch. Therefore, the skills ecosystem requires skilling, reskilling, and upskilling of massive proportions. As per McKinsey, 25 percent more workers than previously estimated will potentially need to switch occupations due to the pandemic.

Speaking on the occasion of WYSD, Dr. Ajay Kela, President, and CEO, of Wadhwani Foundation, said, “Digital transformation of businesses, accelerated by COVID, is opening large volumes of high-paying job opportunities for global youth. Skills required to command these digital jobs can be acquired through numerous short-term training programs, and increasingly, employers are valuing such skills over academic credentials. On World Youth Skills Day 2022, I encourage the youth to capitalize on these opportunities through self-paced online re/upskilling programs, thus improving their job prospects and empowering themselves to become continuous learners for in-demand skills and jobs.”

On the occasion of World Youth Skills Day, Wadhwani Foundation and its skills-led initiative, Wadhwani Opportunity, share details on eight key emerging trends that will reshape the Indian skills ecosystem in times to come.

Creative-07

Further explaining the changing paradigm in skilling, Sunil Dahiya, Executive Vice President, Wadhwani Opportunity, added, “Covid-19 has effected fundamental changes at the workplace that demand future-proof skilling for future-ready jobs largely driven by advancing technologies and automation. However, along with the increasing importance of technological skills, the need for soft or employability skills has also surged. While smart machines are taking care of the repetitive and cognitive jobs, there is increasing realisation of how teams equipped with social-emotional skills possess a definite competitive advantage. Wadhwani Opportunity is, therefore, focused on imparting both deep domain and soft/employability skills to equip the youth towards family-sustaining jobs.”

Prega News and Grapes conceptualise and execute a new digital campaign, #JustTakeTheTest

Be it a craving for something sour or feeling moody every hour. Be it about gaining extra weight or having midnight cravings such signs are not apparent that you’re pregnant. In our society, many myths keep looming around pregnancy. For instance, pickle cravings are usually considered a sign of pregnancy. While this may be true in some cases, can’t a woman just crave pickles?

With Prega News, Grapes has conceptualised and executed a digital campaign, #JustTakeTheTest. This is the second leg of the campaign, this time the brand has come up with a series of pickle ads, bursting the myth by showing that the only way to confirm pregnancy is to take the test.

The campaign in a fun and quirky manner subtly explains that there are a thousand so-called “indications” of pregnancy but only ‘ONE’ sure shot way of knowing is to have Prega News, which gives guaranteed quick results to confirm whether or not one is pregnant. So you don’t have to depend on one’s food habits to confirm the good news #JustTakeTheTest today and be sure. The brand has posted interesting creatives on social media, which relates to the audience well.

Speaking on the campaign, Shradha Agarwal, Co-founder and CEO, of Grapes, said, “It’s a fact that conversations keep hovering when you’re expecting. There are times when people either look for signs or depend on their cravings. Though certainly, such things are part of pregnancy it’s not absolute to confirm one is expecting a child. Hence, it is always better to take the pregnancy test and get a sure shot confirmation. After receiving the objective from the client, we thought to do this campaign in a fun way, which invokes humour, but simultaneously spread the message. #JustTakeTheTest campaign aims to create awareness among consumers that rather than creating commotion to share the good news, first get accurate results as it helps in taking the right steps for your little one early on, and helps in seeking guidance from a doctor in the initial stage, before celebrating the news.

Commenting on the campaign, Joy Chatterjee, Associate Vice President, Mankind Pharma, said, “The campaign aims to burst the myths around pregnancy. The most common conversations like women craving for pickles, feeling low, gaining extra kilos to establish that it doesn’t specify one is expecting a child. These are all just speculations, which we keep hearing in our lives, or get a lot of advice from people. These connotations should be avoided, and one must not be dependent on myths anymore. The campaign #JustTakeTheTest encourages people to take the pregnancy test, and get rapid, accurate results by switching to Prega News.

June 2022’s Most Wanted Malware: New Banking, MaliBot, Poses Danger for Users of Mobile Banking

New Delhi, July 14, 2022 — Check Point Research (CPR), the Threat Intelligence arm of Check Point® Software Technologies Ltd. (NASDAQ: CHKP), a leading provider of cyber security solutions globally, has published its latest Global Threat Index for June 2022. CPR reports that a new Android banking malware has emerged, named MaliBot, following the takedown of FluBot at the end of May.

Although only just discovered, MaliBot, a banking, has already reached third place in the most prevalent mobile malwares list. It disguises itself as cryptocurrency mining applications under different names and targets users of mobile banking to steal financial information. Similar to FluBot, MaliBot uses phishing SMS messages (smishing) to lure victims into clicking on a malicious link that redirects them to the download of a fake application containing the malware.

Also this month, the notorious malware, Emotet, is still the most prevalent malware overall. Snake Keylogger comes in third after an increase in activity since appearing in eighth place last month. Snake’s main functionality is to record users keystrokes and transmit collected data to threat actors. While in May CPR witnessed Snake Keylogger being delivered via PDF files, recently it has been spread through emails containing Word attachments tagged as requests for quotations. Researchers also reported about  new variant of Emotet in June that has credit card stealing capabilities and targets Chrome browser users.

“While it’s always good to see law enforcement successful in bringing down cybercrime groups or malwares like FluBot, sadly it didn’t take long for a new mobile malware to take its place,” said Maya Horowitz, VP Research at Check Point Software. “Cybercriminals are well aware of the central role that mobile devices play in many peoples’ lives and are always adapting and improving their tactics to match. The threat landscape is evolving rapidly, and mobile malware is a significant danger for both personal and enterprise security. It’s never been more important to have a robust mobile threat prevention solution in place.”

CPR also revealed that “Apache Log4j Remote Code Execution” is the most commonly exploited vulnerability, impacting 43% of organizations worldwide, closely followed by “Web Server Exposed Git Repository Information Disclosure” which has a global impact of 42.3%. “Web Servers Malicious URL Directory Traversal” is in third place with a global impact of 42.1%.

Top Malware Families

*The arrows relate to the change in rank compared to the previous month.

This month, Emotet is still the most popular malware with a global impact of 14%, followed by Formbook and Snake Keylogger, each impacting 4.4% of organizations worldwide.

  1. ↔ Emotet – Emotet is an advanced, self-propagating and modular Trojan. Emotet was once used as a banking Trojan, but recently is used as a distributer to other malware or malicious campaigns. It uses multiple methods for maintaining persistence and evasion techniques to avoid detection. In addition, it can be spread through phishing spam emails containing malicious attachments or links.
  1. ↔ Formbook – Formbook is an Infostealer targeting the Windows OS and was first detected in 2016. It is marketed as Malware-as-a-Service (MaaS) in underground hacking forums for its strong evasion techniques and relatively low price. FormBook harvests credentials from various web browsers, collects screenshots, monitors and logs keystrokes, and can download and execute files according to orders from its C&C.
  1. ↑ Snake Keylogger – Snake is a modular .NET keylogger and credential stealer first spotted in late November 2020. Its primary function is to record users keystrokes and transmit collected data to the threat actors. Snake infections pose a major threat to users’ privacy and online safety, as the malware can steal virtually all kinds of sensitive information and it is a particularly evasive and persistent keylogger.

The complete list of the top ten malware families in June can be found on the Check Point blog (https://research.checkpoint.com/).

Diabetic retinopathy is the damage to the light sensitive layer of the eye called retina

Dr. Prerana Shah Panoli,

MUMBAI, 14 JULY’22 :

Diabetes is one of the ongoing endemics in the world. It affects the eye and can present with cataract, glaucoma and diabetic retinopathy. Diabetic retinopathy is the damage to the light sensitive layer of the eye called retina.

Diabetic retinopathy is a disease of small vessels. Diabetes will cause sorbitol to flow in your blood. Sorbitol will cause increased oxidative stress. Continued oxidative damage can cause bleeding, low oxygen supply, swelling, and detachment of retina. Treatment facilities of this is available at Shree Ramkrishna Netralaya, Thane, Mumbai and Navi Mumbai.

Dr. Prerana Shah Panoli, Consulting Ophtholmologist & Vitreo Retinal Surgeon at Shree Ramkrishna Netralaya (SRN) elaborated the Diabetic retinopathy. The two are the presentations of diabetic retinopathy are called non-proliferative diabetic retinopathy or NPDR and proliferative diabetic retinopathy or PDR. NPDR is divided into mild, moderate and severe depending on what your doctor can see in the retina. The dilated small vessels called micro aneurysms will leak and cause fluid accumulation in the different layers of your retina. Long term fluid accumulation will cause lipid deposits in the layers of retina which is one of the common reasons of vision loss.

If oxidative stress continues, the larger blood vessels of your eye become dilated and frizzy and start leaking out blood .This causes red bleeding spots called hemorrhages to happen in your retina. Sometimes retinal neuronal swelling can cause white spots called cotton wool spots. The leakage can happen in the center of your eye called the macula. The macula is responsible for central sharp vision. Continued fluid leakage and accumulation of lipid deposits causes a drop in vision. It is called as diabetic macular edema. If it is significant to be diagnosed by a doctor it is called as clinically significant macular edema

Dr. Prerana Shah Panoli said, If diabetes is not under control, the retina is under continued oxidative stress, oxygen or nourishment to all parts is reduced, new vessels or neovascularization will grow on the surface of retina. It is called as proliferative diabetic retinopathy (PDR) and needs immediate attention.

If the new vessels keep on leaking and bleeding they cause a fibrous or a scar tissue to form on the surface of retina. The bleeding into the jelly of the eye is called as vitreous hemorrhage .The fibrous and scar tissue is unhealthy and it causes the retina to contract and separate from its base. This is known as tractional retinal detachment which requires surgery.

In non-proliferative diabetic retinopathy (mild, moderate or severe) without any diabetic macular edema, the treatment remains good sugar control, good sugar control, good sugar control .If you have diabetic macular edema, we need to do a test called OCT or Optical Coherence Tomography which gives you an idea of how much edema or how much fluid in the retinal layers needs to be treated. The treatment options are laser photocoagulation or intravitreal injections (injection given inside the jelly of your eye called vitreous). Prior to laser photocoagulation, we may need to do fundus fluorescein angiography (FFA) which is study of blood vessels of the retina of the eye. Anti-vascular endothelial growth factor (Anti VEGF) injections help to decrease the diabetic macular edema.

Proliferative diabetic retinopathy is a disease of neovascularization treated with pan retinal photocoagulation (PRP) helps in regression of new vessels .It will prevent bleeding into the eye .In cases of tractional retinal detachment, we perform micro vitreoretinal surgery to remove the diseased jelly of the eye and flatten the retina. The outcomes of timely done surgery are good.

That is actually an excellent question. The first baseline checkup happens at diagnosis and includes vision testing, measurement of intraocular eye examination, retinal examination and if necessary an OCT or FFA. A flicker ERG can be used for screening early damage due to diabetic retinopathy, if necessary. The review is scheduled according to the diagnosis by the doctor.

Regular checkup is important .If you are a diabetic and you are experiencing vision problem, a timely checkup and necessary intervention can help you prevent vision loss.

If you are diagnosed with PDR, getting a pan-retinal photocoagulation on time can do wonders. Getting a recommended surgery for vitreous hemorrhage or tractional retinal detachment can prevent further damage and control vision loss.

-Dr. Prerana Shah Panoli, Consulting Ophtholmologist & Vitreo Retinal Surgeon, Shree Ramkrishna Netralaya (SRN)
