AstraZeneca expands its ‘Young Health Program’ in Delhi

AstraZeneca expands its ‘Young Health Program’ in Delhi; opens 3 Health Information Centres in the communities of Sangam Vihar and Dakshinpuri

For over a decade, AstraZeneca and Plan India’s Young Health Program has been generating awareness and identifying sustainable solutions to influence the behaviour of youths against Non-Communicable Diseases

New Delhi: AstraZeneca India, a science-led biopharmaceutical company, together with Plan India, an NGO striving to improve the lives of millions of children and young people, today announced the expansion of their flagship CSR initiative, the Young Health Program by opening 3 Health Information Centres (HIC) in Delhi across the communities of Sangam Vihar and Dakshin Puri. The flag-off event organised at The India Habitat Centre saw participation by senior dignitaries from the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, Directorate of Family Welfare, NCD Cell, MCD North, beneficiaries from the multiple under-resourced communities, Plan India and AstraZeneca India.

‘Young Health Programme’ aims to reduce the growing burden of non-communicable diseases on health systems with a focused approach to bring about a behaviour change specifically amongst youth from 10-24 years of age. Present at the expansion program, Dr. Zoya Ali Rizvi, Deputy Commissioner, MOHFW, Govt of India, said, “It’s high time to focus more on NCDs as it’s a grim reality that the burden of NCDs on India is long-lasting given that more than 65% of the individuals suffering from NCDs are in the most productive life age groups i.e., between 26-59 years. Healthcare initiatives like YHP, undertaken at a community level, contribute significantly to arrest this trend and to provide equitable access to healthcare to people”.

The announcement was accompanied by a theatrical presentation of the positive effects of the programme work in the communities of Bawana, Holambikalan, and Badarpur in Delhi over the past decade. A group of about 15 beneficiaries, peer educators, and youth from the grass-root communities recreated an engagement tool that is used to draw attention to the cause and raise awareness on the ground.

The programme specifically focuses on educating youth on the ill effects of tobacco, and alcohol through peer pressure. Involving youth from the target communities themselves, the programme undertakes a community-based approach to develop them into peer educators who in turn shoulder the responsibility of expanding the message to the entire community. Thus far, YHP directly reached more than 460,000 young people with health information and trained more than 7,800 peer educators who have delivered numerous health promotion activities from time to time. In the year 2019, the program was expanded to Tamil Nadu in addition to Delhi, with 2 HICs followed by its expansion to Karnataka with 3 HICs in Bengaluru.

On the occasion, Gagandeep Singh, Managing Director AstraZeneca India said, “The launch of YHP in Delhi a decade back marked the vantage point for our global community investment initiatives in India, focused on empowering and sensitizing youngsters to be able to make healthier choices. With about 21 HICs now across Delhi, Tamil Nadu and Karnataka, we aim to continue delivering accurate health information and encourage adoption of healthy practices amongst the youth. We are extremely thankful to the health authorities and our partners who have been with us on this journey to lay a strong foundation of this program in the country”.

Mohammed Asif, Executive Director Plan India said, ” Since 2010, Plan India’s Young Health initiative has been improving health behaviours among adolescents and young people with the support of AstraZeneca. Our efforts in NCD prevention have reached a critical stage to be able to work with government initiatives such as RKSK, and we are now expanding to Sangam Vihar and Dakshinpuri in order to reach 164,000 adolescents and young people with an innovative peer educator model and a youth-led health information centre. Having seen significant improvements in high-risk areas in Delhi, reaching out to new areas is yet another initiative to combat the high prevalence of risk behaviours associated with NCDs, such as tobacco use, alcohol abuse, poor eating habits, and inactive lifestyles.”

YHP aims to reduce the uptake of unhealthy behaviours in young people to improve their health outcomes as adults and help address the growing burden of NCDs on health systems. Globally thus far, YHP has reached more than 8 million young people in more than 30 countries around the world. In 2020, AstraZeneca made a global commitment of $35 million to renew the YHP for another 5 years and set new and ambitious goals. From 2021 to 2025, the YHP aims to reach 10 million more young people with health information in countries around the world.

In a direction to create a multi-faceted impact, AstraZeneca is complementing the YHP with ‘New Normal Same Cancer’ and ‘Ganga Godavari Initiative’ that focuses on creating a mass scale awareness on cancers with the help of ambassadors and partners such as Indian Cancer Society and Banaras Hindu University. Under these initiatives, multiple cancer screening camps are conducted in the remote areas of the country where not many facilities are available.

About the Young Health Programme: AstraZeneca’s Young Health Programme (YHP) is a global programme with a unique focus on young people aged 10 to 24 and the prevention of the most common non-communicable diseases (NCDs): cancer, diabetes, heart disease, respiratory disease, and mental ill-health. Sprink unveils the Sprink Partner app to provide delicious balanced home-cooked meals to office professionals in a hassle-free way

Bangalore, 29, April 2022: Sprink, India’s fastest-growing food Tech Company that is bringing the convenience of subscription to daily food with its intuitive platform, has announced the launch of its flagship B2B Sprink Partner app.  Sprink’s partner app is created to help admins/facility/HR managers who require food for their clients/ employees/ residents requiring daily food – bulk or freshly packed meals format.

With more and more offices opening every week and with working professionals getting back to the office, getting food on time and on budget, has been a real struggle. Many offices which had functional kitchens/cafeterias have been shut down post-pandemic and there aren’t many hygienic food joints nearby offices as they used to be before the pandemic. In the end, this situation leaves working professionals often relying heavily on food ordering apps or completely dependent on bringing food from home or getting their daily meals from vendors in their cafeteria who aren’t able to provide consistent quality and healthy food. This is where Sprink comes to the rescue through the launch of its novel B2B app.

The Sprink Partner app is a unique way to enable daily delicious food without the hassles. Sprink serves a wide variety of daily-changing menus which are delicious, balanced, and prepared fresh every day at a hygiene-first facility owned by Sprink. Today, sprink.online is serving a few lakhs of meals per month across Bangalore to offices and homes. Sprink offers daily meal subscription services to the corporate offices, factories, businesses, hospitals, and hostels and has a growing number of subscribers who demand quality food at their disposal every day. Sprink has emerged as a single-point food solution for Individuals, Corporates, PGs, Coliving Spaces, Coworking Spaces and even Educational Institutions. The platform has a vast clientele that includes corporate giants like Capgemini, Accenture, Mu-sigma, Carl Zeiss, Commonwealth Bank of Australia, Stanley, Autumnwood, Helloworld, Colive, and many more.

The app enables admins/facility managers to avail and manages daily meal requirements without worrying about daily counts or feedback collection as the app allows end-users (employees/residents) to view menus, pause/unpause delivery on any given day or even swap dishes with something of their liking. It is the solution to enable food services at the site without collecting orders or payment or preparing food. A simple plug-and-play solution for something quite essential, needing every day – daily food for everyone.

Once the corporate team on-boards Sprink as a partner, in the backend system and maps the list of all companies/corporations working out under a particular workspace/living space, employees/residents can simply download the app, where they can see the workspace/living space address in the listed option, selecting which they can complete registration and save log in verifying OTP on their registered email id. Post-on-boarding, they can see various discounted meal plans with the added benefit of zero delivery fee. They can choose the preferred meal, place an order for delivery and even rate their food and experience.

Speaking on the launch, the spokesperson for Sprink, said, “In organisations,  the onus of deciding the menu and ensuring everyone is happy about that menu lies with admin/hr or facility. This not only burdens the admin/hr but also makes it inefficient because the consumer who’s eating food has no/minimal say in food selection making the consumer experience sub-optimal. Sprink Partner app is a solution geared towards addressing this gap. Through this app now consumers can choose food based on their personal preferences, mark whether they want food or not and admin/hr can sit and relax while their organisation’s daily order management is automatically being taken care of.

The latest offering by Sprink also extends numerous benefits to admins/facility managers as it saves time as there is no need to run behind each employee/person and collect their orders and follow payments. It also allows for greater flexibility as employees/people can directly pause the meals when they don’t need them. Additionally, all meals from Sprink are hygenically prepared in an audited facility that is owned by Sprink and guarantees the health of the food. It also frees the admins from the hassles of conducting multiple kitchen audits with multiple food vendors.

Moreover, employees can manage their own accounts by using the app and go through their own accounts and view the menu and manage as per their need and want. Furthermore, the app is packed with unique features like meal-swaps and add-ons, that allow the user to try even more variety to his meals. The daily food segment demands variety. With features like meal swaps and add ons one can swap their meals with newer menu items or top up their meals with a new dish or two with the items under add-ons. It also allows the user to pause their meals at convenience.

Osteoarthritis Of Knee – All you need to know

By Dr. Shekhar Srivastav, HOD Orthopaedics, Sant Parmanand Hospital, New Delhi

“Joint pain and stiffness” is the definition of arthritis. However, the phrase is frequently used to refer to any of the more than 100 disorders that affect the joints, which are the places where two or more bones link together to allow movement.

Osteoarthritis (sometimes called degenerative joint disease or osteoarthrosis) is the most frequent type of arthritis. Arthritis is a condition in which the cartilage in the joints gradually breaks down. Osteoarthritis can affect any joint in the body, although it most usually affects the knee.

When the cartilage that protects the bones in joints wears away over time, osteoarthritis occurs. The surface layer of cartilage hardens, causing pain. If the cartilage totally disappears, the bone will scrape against bone, causing considerable damage to the ends of the bones and joint pain.

Osteoarthritis has an unknown cause in the majority of cases. Obesity, aging, joint difficulties or stress, inheritance, and muscle weakness, according to researchers, are all contributing causes.

The issue normally arises gradually and worsens with time. The following are some of the signs and symptoms of osteoarthritis:

  • Knee joint pain, either during use or after a period of rest
  • Tightness in the joints, which can be felt before you even wake up after a period of silence.
  • Loss of mobility might make it difficult to operate a joint.
  • When you use the joint, it gives you a grating sensation.

While there is no known cure for osteoarthritis, therapies can help patients manage their pain and maintain joint mobility so they can go about their everyday lives. Although drugs and joint replacement surgery are important parts of the treatment for osteoarthritis, your doctor will probably tell you to explore all other options first. In the future, medications and surgery may be required.

When you have mild osteoarthritis pain that is bothersome but not severe enough to interfere with everyday activities, your doctor may recommend rest. If the patient is feeling pain or irritation, they should rest the joint for 12 to 24 hours. Find activities that do not necessitate the use of the joint on a regular basis. Take a 10-minute break every hour.

With your doctor’s permission, you should engage in routine activities. Knee osteoarthritis can be helped by activities like walking, bicycling, or swimming. Exercise improves the strength and function of the joint, which improves its integrity. Joints that are tender, injured, or swollen should not be exercised.

Knee osteoarthritis is exacerbated by being overweight. Consult your physician about healthy and effective weight-loss choices. The majority of people combine dietary changes with more physical exercise.

Osteoarthritis pain that persists despite first treatment may necessitate the use of medicines in addition to other therapies. Continue exercising when possible and resting when necessary to get the most out of your treatment.

If you’ve tried prior therapies but are still suffering from significant pain and incapacity, talk to your doctor about further options, such as:

  • Analgesics with greater potency
  • injections of cortisone
  • Visco-supplementation is a term used to describe the process of adding more viscosity to

Injections of hyaluronic acid derivatives can help alleviate knee discomfort by increasing the viscosity of the joint.

The surgical procedure is frequently prescribed for severe osteoarthritis that has become resistant to other treatments. If osteoarthritis makes it difficult to carry out daily chores, the patient may want to consider surgery. For end-stage osteoarthritis, total knee replacement is the preferred operation.

The most recent advancement is the Robotic Knee Replacement Technique, which is proven to be ground-breaking. With the use of a CT scan and high-end software, the surgeon can now determine the alignment, size, and type of the knee implant component prior to surgery. The fully automated ROBOT then flawlessly executes the plan during surgery, assuring sub-millimeter precision and precise cutting prior to component placement.

It necessitates smaller incisions, less surgical time, and less equipment, resulting in reduced post-operative pain and a quicker return to normal life. The operated knee closely resembles the original knee in appearance and function, and it performs admirably.

Robotic technology is undoubtedly the future of knee replacement surgery, and we are all equipped with the most recent innovations to ensure our patients’ pain-free lives.

Please keep in mind that not all patients will benefit from robotic knee replacement surgery. For more information, consult your physician.

Work from Home Culture Prolongs pregnancy in young couples

Mumbai – India is one of the countries where women face challenges and risks during childbirth. More than 45,000 women in India lose their lives every year due to a lack of access to proper care during pregnancy. According to the most recent statistics, the Maternal Mortality Rate (MMR) in India has come down to 103 per one lakh births in 2017-19 from 113 per one lakh births in 2016-18. India has seen a significant decline in child mortality in the last few years, but India still has a long way to go when it comes to decreasing our MMR. Late motherhood is a reality that poses challenges during pregnancy in the cities. Career and life stabilization takes priority and the cradle takes a longer time to arrive. Many young couples are delaying their family extension plans due to the pandemic and its challenges, according to a survey conducted by Zynova Shalby Hospital from Ghatkopar.

Giving more information about this topic Dr. Madhuri Mehendale Consultant Obstetrics and Gynecologist from Zynova Shalby Hospital, said, “For the last 2 years, the whole world has been facing the situation of Corona Pandemic; many citizens in the private sector have lost their jobs and businesses. This has pushed many couples to postpone their family planning. Pregnancy is considered to be a stage in which the immune system is weakened. Pregnant women are afraid of the covid-19 epidemic infection. Also, due to financial constraints, many couples are still suffering from mental stress and financial instability even after lockdown. The corona epidemic began after March 2019, with lockdowns and subsequent waves of corona increasing the couple’s parenting and household responsibilities. In addition, the concept of working from home has become more popular in the corporate sector. Even today, 30 to 35% of the citizens are doing work from home. In this culture, the working hours are from 9 am to 9 pm, so personal freedom seems to be compromised. Safe motherhood is ensuring that females receive the care they require to remain safe and healthy. Special attention must be paid especially during labor and delivery, which is the most vulnerable time for difficulties.”

“Age plays an important role in pregnancy With age, the number of eggs decreases. There are a few things to keep in mind when it comes to late motherhood. This is because over time, challenges such as miscarriage, high blood pressure, and pre-eclampsia, may arise. Pregnancy at an older age can increase the risk of Downs syndrome in children. A woman’s peak reproductive years are between the late teens and late 20s. By age 30, fertility (the ability to get pregnant) starts to decline. This decline becomes more rapid once you reach your mid-30s. By 45, fertility has declined so much that getting pregnant naturally is unlikely for most women,” said Dr. Priyanka Shukla Gynecologist & Obstetrician from Apex Hospitals, Borivali.
