How to: Clubhouse Edition

Conversations on Clubhouse are the talk of the virtual town. With over 2 million users worldwide, Clubhouse, a social streaming application is getting a lot of attention these days. Though the application has been around since March 2020 it only took a conversion from Elon Musk and Robinhood’s CEO Vlad Tenev to get the trend and the hype grows.

Clubhouse is an invite-only application that gives it a tag of inclusivity making it more desirable for people. Post joining the platform, participants can join different ‘rooms’ as per their preference.
So If you are planning to be a part of the clubhouse and are confused about how to participate in the trend, here is the guide to be in the clubhouse:

  1. Grab the Invite: The catch with the clubhouse is that unlike with other social media platforms, the users cannot sign in with their accounts. To be part of the platform, an existing member of the clubhouse has to send an invite to the applicant’s registered mobile number. Only after authenticating the invite, the new user can join the application.
  2. Download the application: The application is available on android and iOS only. To access the application, the user can download the clubhouse from the Play Store on Android devices and App Store on iOS devices.
  3. Personalise your Audio Rooms: After successful authentication of the invite, the user can personalise the audio rooms as per their preference, like tech, business, politics, and such. Eventually, the application’s operating system adapts to the user’s preferences and suggests rooms as per the interest. These audio rooms act like conference calls, where the room closes after the discussion ends.

Clubhouse is undoubtedly one of the most engaging platforms of the year 2021. It is a great place to find your tribe who like to discuss and talk about similar things. Isn’t it amazing how the power of symmetrical internet allows you to connect and reconnect with people and at the same time gives you another platform for limitless entertainment?

Huawei’s Ryan Ding: Ongoing Innovation Is Lighting up the Future of Every Industry

[Barcelona, Spain, June 30, 2021] During MWC Barcelona 2021, Huawei Executive Director and President of Carrier BG Ryan Ding delivered a keynote speech Innovation: Lighting up the Future. In his keynote, Ding said that innovation in ICT is becoming a key driver of the global economy and its value is moving beyond the telecoms industry. Ongoing innovation in 5G, in particular, will bring more value to operators, the ICT industry, and the global economy, and will light up the future of every industry.

Ryan Ding delivering a keynote

More than telecoms: Innovation in the ICT industry is becoming a key economic driver

The pandemic, Ding said, has created a new normal in which the digital economy is the driving force for the global economy. ICT infrastructure, as the cornerstone of the digital economy, is playing an increasingly important role. Ding mentioned that the value of ICT now transcends the telecoms industry and has transformative implications for the global economy as a whole.

In countries where 5G is developing faster, operators have seen faster revenue growth, and these countries also tend to have better digital infrastructure overall. Taking China as an example, in less than 18 months, more than 820,000 5G base stations have been deployed, and Chinese operators achieved a 6.5% increase in revenue and a 5.6% increase in net profits in the first quarter this year. The rapid development of digital infrastructure driven by 5G will add EUR1.9 trillion to the Chinese economy in the next five years. The same stories are also unfolding in South Korea and Europe.

More than connectivity: 5G innovation is enabling operators’ business success

As ICT infrastructure is the cornerstone of the digital economy in the 5G era, operators are playing a more important role than they used to.

Ding said, “Currently, the major goal of operators in 5G is to achieve business success in three key markets – consumers, homes, and industries – through innovation in network deployment, market development, and operation optimization.”

“In the consumer market, 5G means not just faster speeds; it also brings new experiences and new value. Some operators have already achieved initial business success.”

According to Ding, there are three steps an operator can take to succeed in the 5GtoC market. The first is to speed up 5G deployment, with targeted network planning and investment based on precise insights into high-value areas, key scenarios, and potential users. The second is to accelerate 5G user migration, and the third step is to create value-driven, flexible pricing models.

Today, 5G has been applied in over 1,000 projects in more than 20 industries including steel and mining, enabling safer and more efficient production. Chinese operators have made great progress and are entering the phase of taking early successes and replicating them at scale.

“We’ve learned from Chinese operators’ experience that the success of 5GtoB depends on three factors,” said Ding. “First, selecting the right industries. Operators should choose target industries by looking at four factors: demand, affordability, replicability, and technical feasibility. Second, defining the scope of your offerings. Operators can serve as network providers that offer connectivity services. They can also serve as cloud service providers or even system integrators that provide end-to-end integration services. Different roles require different skillsets and yield different business values. Third, designing innovative business models. This is key to replicating 5GtoB success at scale.”

During the pandemic, there is a growing demand for home broadband, and this has highlighted the advantages of 5G FWA that enables rapid deployment and contactless O&M. Middle East operators have achieved remarkable commercial success by taking FWA as a key use case of 5G.

More than business: Huawei keeps innovating to drive industry-wide sustainability

“5G success first requires a 5G network that provides the best user experience, and this guides how we innovate at Huawei,” said Ding. Huawei has launched the industry’s lightest and most powerful Massive MIMO that consumes less energy. It can be carried and installed by just one person, which speeds up network deployment. With Huawei’s Optical Cross-Connect (OXC), one sub-rack can replace nine cabinets normally needed. It has four times larger capacity, but uses 95% less power. Huawei’s 5G Super Uplink solution combines the advantages of 2.1 GHz and 3.5 GHz to enhance uplink capacity and indoor coverage. This solution provides a peak uplink rate of over 450 Mbit/s, enabling hundreds of users to live stream the Xiamen Marathon in 4K in April using their 5G smartphones.

To support green development models and carbon neutrality, according to Ding, Huawei keeps innovating at three levels: equipment, sites, and networks. At the equipment level, Huawei uses components with higher power efficiency to make hardware platforms more energy efficient. At the site level, Huawei’s simplified site solutions help operators lower energy consumption, as well as save on electricity and rent. At the network level, Huawei has launched a multi-band and multi-RAT power-saving solution. This solution can cut energy consumption in wireless networks without compromising network performance. With Huawei’s innovative solution, 5G equipment working in low and high bands can share a cabinet, and as a result, less energy is used. When it comes to multi-band equipment power saving, Huawei’s goal is to make one plus one less than one.

Collaborating to create an ecosystem and evolving 5G for a better future

Concluding his keynote, Ding emphasized that 5G development requires ongoing innovation. In 5GtoB, for example, 5G standards need to be coordinated with industry standards at a faster rate, and 5G should be integrated into enterprises’ core production processes to help them go digital and intelligent. At the same time, the synergy between 5G, cloud, and computing will further expand the boundaries of operators’ business, creating space for new growth. 5G innovation is an ongoing process. Huawei believes that innovation will light up the future.

Noccarc aims to build large product portfolio in MedTech, plans to increase team size by approximately 55% in next Quarter

New Delhi, June 30, 2021: Efficiency, quick scaling, and sustained growth are things that every startup aims to achieve. However, few do it whilst maintaining the high quality of products in a short span of time, especially when a significant percentage of the products are critical medical equipment such as ventilators. To achieve its goals, augment its product offerings, and scale up, a startup would need to expand its team by recruiting experienced, highly skilled individuals. Against this backdrop, Noccarc, a Pune-based tech startup that is committed to solving real-world problems by materializing futuristic visions with remarkable technological expertise has announced its plans of expanding its team size by approximately 55% in the coming quarter. Noccarc currently has a 130+ strong team.

Aiming to expand the headcount by 30% for critical functions such as R&D and Engineering and Testing, and by 25% for the Quality, Compliance, Finance, HR, Service, and other departments by the end of 2021, the startup, which achieved exponential growth over the past 12 months, will be hiring a majority of employees in senior or mid-level roles. With product launches in the pipeline, Noccarc’s primary focus is to strengthen the Product and Operations team through this hiring. Having gained customers’ trust within 8 months amidst the pandemic, Noccarc is now aiming to continue its growth streak. The team expansion will not only allow the startup to ease out its internal processes and operations but will also help in developing solutions and leverage technology to add value at the customer’s end as well as for its other internal and external stakeholders.

Having multiple projects underway, the newly hired team will strengthen the existing teams and work towards decreasing the TAT (Turn Around Time). While most of the hiring is happening through online job portals and referrals, Noccarc is also working with independent consultants to identify the right candidates as per the requirements of each job role. Given the current scenario, the startup is conducting interviews through video calls. While the eligibility for each role varies, Noccarc is looking to hire candidates who can stretch themselves intellectually and possess the ability to work in a fast-paced environment. With high priority given to candidates being cultural fits, the startup, which offers exceptional learning opportunities, prefers to hire candidates who are passionate about solving real-world problems and are ready to learn and unlearn.

Speaking on the hiring and expansion plans, Harshit Rathore, Co-Founder of Noccarc said, “Noccarc has already proven its extraordinary capabilities by supplying superior quality ICU ventilators across India in less than a year. The journey of 5 individuals starting in a 200 sq. ft area to growing to a team of 130+ with 50,000 sq. ft of factory and office space has been a remarkable one. The supply was estimated to be over 20% of total ICU ventilators supplied in the country in the calendar year of 2021. India currently relies on imports for 85% of critical medical devices and Noccarc aims to bring this percentage down significantly over the next 4-5 years. Both the products in the pipeline and the ones that we will build in the future will not only be designed for India but will be compliant with CE and USFDA requirements as we strongly see an acceptance and demand for our innovative, high-end products in the global market. Every new hire at Noccarc will have a crucial role to play in our growth and will be shouldering significant responsibilities.”

He further added “We have just begun executing our plans for Noccarc and we plan to maintain a similar growth rate for the next few years. Our vision is to build an organization that creates high-end, complex products in India so that the country’s engineers who wish to work with cutting-edge technologies don’t need to shift to other countries to follow their passion. Noccarc’s products, besides being technologically advanced, also have a strong purpose behind them, thereby ensuring the team’s motivation and pride in building products that serve the society.”

Since Noccarc’s headquarters and R&D facility are in Pune, and most of the upcoming hiring will be for the Pune office. The fast-growing startup is also planning to hire candidates in operation roles for its Delhi office soon.

East Delhi Municipal Corporation in Association with SBI-Card and Payment Service Ltd. and Indian Pollution Control Association Inaugurates Material Recovery Facility in Shahdara South Zone

New Delhi, 1 July 2021: Plastics are the backbone of globalization and the enabler of modern lives; they are present in our everyday items like the toothbrush or credit cards. But their environmentally safe disposal is becoming increasingly problematic. Currently, India is estimated to generate 26,000 tonnes of plastic every day which consists of 80% recyclable plastic and 20% non-recyclable multi-layer plastic. However, only 30% of the plastic is recycled while the rest is often found littered on the roads or in drains contaminating our surroundings.

Indian Pollution Control Association

To tackle the issue of disposal of plastic waste; East Delhi Municipal Corporation (EDMC), SBI-Card and Payment Services Ltd., and Indian Pollution Control Association (IPCA) collaborated in a unique association to establish a Material Recovery Facility or a Dry Waste Collection Center in the Heart of East Delhi, as a part of SBI-Card’s CSR Initiatives. The facility is the first of its kind innovative approach for developing a sustainable value chain for collection, segregation, and thereafter channelization of plastic waste for recycling to enable a circular economy for dry waste.

The Dry Waste Collection Center has been established at Ward No. 21E, Shahdara South Zone, Geeta Colony Delhi, and the facility were inaugurated on the 29th of June, 2021 by SH. Sandeep Kapoor, Counsellor, Krishna Nagar, and SH. Vikas Anand, Commissioner, East Delhi Municipal Corporation (EDMC) in the presence of Mr. Ashish Jain, Founder. Director IPCA and representatives from SBI Card. The inauguration ceremony was followed by a tour of the facility for the dignitaries.

Sh. Sandeep Kapoor appreciated the collaborative model for plastic waste management and Sh. Vikas Anand added that more such collaborative efforts were required in society to make a difference on the ground in the domain of waste management.
Mr. Jain as director of IPCA pledged to continue such efforts along with sensitization of the public towards the problems of incorrect disposal of waste and encourage more households to segregate waste for effective recycling.

The Dry waste Collection center is ready for operations and has a capacity of handling 2 Metric Tonnes of dry waste per day. The main function of the facility is to segregate dry waste into different categories and then compact the segregated waste to reduce the volume of waste. The operations are semi-mechanized and two types of machinery are used to conduct operations. First is a semi-automatic Segregation Conveyor Platform, used for segregation of waste which can be operated simultaneously by up to six people, to segregate different grades and/or categories of dry waste. The second is a Vertical Hydraulic Baler, used for compaction of waste into bales. The machine utilizes hydraulic pressure and can compact waste items like paper, plastic, cartons, cloths into compact bales of 20 kg to 150 kg. The segregation and compaction process help reduce the cost of storage and transportation and aid the ineffective recycling of waste.

The recycling of waste can be done through an authorized recycler or at the upcoming recycling facility to be established in the next part of the project. The recycling facility will then develop consumer products from recycled plastic waste for completing the circular value chain.

OkCredit Launches #PaasHaiToKhaasHai Campaign to Garner Support for Neighbourhood Shops

Bengaluru, July 2021: On the eve of MSME Day, OkCredit has launched the #PaasHaiToKhaasHai digital campaign to underline the importance of neighbourhood stores in our daily lives and bring alive their old charm that has somewhat diminished with the onslaught of e-commerce. It encourages customers to keep buying from these stores to keep their business thriving even as they face stiff competition from online retailers.

The #PaasHaiToKhaasHai campaign is built on the premise that neighbourhood stores have been serving us for ages and have been the first port of call when shopping for our daily needs. It conveys that e-commerce firms simply cannot match the warmth and the comfort level customers feel at the neighbourhood shop due to experiences such as touch and feel, bargaining, etc.

The campaign highlights that a customer, irrespective of background/social and economic stature can get all their daily needs products at a genuine price from their neighbourhood stores. Besides, these shops act as hotspots to gather and socialize in smaller towns, wherein people get together to discuss a range of local and national issues.

The campaign ends with a message that neighbourhood stores sell genuine products at a genuine price and are critical to national development as they provide employment to people on the margins of society. We should continue to support them as neighbourhood shops are critical to the revival of consumer demand led economy.

Sharing his thoughts on the campaign, Harsh Pokharna, co-found

er and CEO of OkCredit said, “Neighbourhood retail stores are not merely shops, but are in some ways an extension of our world. These stores which a few years ago used to meet all our daily needs are losing sheen in the internet age. With the #PaasHaiToKhaasHai digital campaign, we want to underline the relevance of these stores and exhort consumers to buy from them, so that they can come to our rescue at the time of need and hence live by the quote/saying #PaasHaiToKhaasHai.”

Launched in Hindi, the #PaasHaiToKhaasHai campaign is available on OkCredit’s social network.
