A Global Collaboration for World-Class Technology

The project was executed through a strategic partnership between SAIL, SMS India Pvt. Ltd. (New Delhi), and global technology leader SMS Group GmbH (Germany). The contract, signed on February 16, 2022, aimed to bring cutting-edge continuous casting technology to RSP.

This collaboration brought together international engineering expertise with indigenous operational capability—showcasing India’s growing ability to execute large-scale industrial projects at global standards.

 Leadership Applauds Team Effort

Commenting on the achievement, Mr. Alok Verma, Director In-Charge, RSP, said:

“This is a proud moment not just for RSP but for the entire SAIL family. The successful commissioning of Caster-4 is the result of collective commitment, seamless coordination, and tireless efforts across departments. We are committed to taking RSP to even greater heights.”

 Why Caster-4 is a Game-Changer

Caster-4 is equipped with advanced automation and precision casting systems designed to:

  • Increase casting speed and accuracy
  • Improve surface finish and product quality
  • Enhance energy efficiency

Allow greater flexibility in steel grades and formats

Its integration into SMS-II marks a significant boost to RSP’s steel-making capacity and aligns with the plant’s broader modernization roadmap. This upgrade positions RSP to meet rising domestic and global demand for high-quality steel, while staying aligned with environmental and operational efficiency goals.

Contributing to ‘Aatmanirbhar Bharat’

The successful commissioning of Caster-4 reflects India’s advancing capabilities in heavy industry and infrastructure development. It underscores RSP’s role in supporting the national vision of ‘Aatmanirbhar Bharat’, by reducing reliance on imported technologies and reinforcing India’s position in global manufacturing.

 A Symbol of Progress

The commissioning of Caster-4 is more than a technical achievement—it’s a symbol of RSP’s resilience, innovation, and forward-thinking approach. As the plant continues to modernize and expand, it sets a powerful example for the Indian steel industry and reaffirms Odisha’s vital role in the nation’s industrial growth.
