“Blood health” refers to the overall condition and functioning of the blood within the human body. It encompasses various aspects such as the quantity and quality of blood cells (red blood cells, white blood cells, and platelets), the proper circulation of blood throughout the body, and the balance of essential components like hemoglobin and clotting factors. Good blood health is vital for supplying oxygen and nutrients to tissues, removing waste products, fighting infections, and maintaining overall bodily functions. Factors that can influence blood health include diet, hydration, exercise, genetics, and the presence of any underlying medical conditions. Regular check-ups and a healthy lifestyle are important for maintaining optimal blood health.

Marengo Asia Hospitals has constantly endeavored to spread increased awareness about health challenges that future generations are facing and to prevent further decline in health. Dr Meet Kumar and his team address any blood-relatedproblems, low hemoglobin or platelets, patients suffering from any type of blood cancer, children suffering from thalassemia, sickle cell, or immunodeficiency diseases, patients advised bone marrow transplants, and immunodeficiency not responding to medical treatments.

Highlighting the fact that hardly 10% of the population is aware of the symptoms and treatment modalities for blood-related ailments, Dr Meet Kumar, Clinical Director, Hematology & Bone Marrow Transplant, Marengo Asia Hospitals Gurugram said “Blood disorders are one of the most fatal forms of cancer that severely impacts the quality of life. Raising awareness that these diseases can be permanently cured through Bone Marrow Transplant is crucial.  With recent technological advancements, previously considered deadly blood disorders such as Acute Leukemia, Multiple Myeloma, Aplastic Anemia, Thalassemia Major, sickle cell disease, and various other cancers can now be successfully treated with Bone Marrow Transplant (BMT) when conventional therapies like chemotherapy and radiotherapy fail.”

Dr. Meet Kumar, Clinical Director, Hemato-oncology and BMT said, “The team and I are looking forward to hosting this event at Gurugram to make the children aware of the outcomes of blood disorders and blood health.”

Neeta Rajwar, Facility Director, Marengo Asia Hospitals Gurugram says, “Blood health is crucial for overall well-being because blood plays several vital roles in the body. Increasing awareness about this will result in a healthy population and a healthier nation. We are happy to see that children are so eager to spread awareness through their creative expressions and welcome them to contribute to the well-being of the society they are an integral part of.”

Some of the most important functions of the blood remaincarrying oxygen from the lungs to all cells in the body for cellular respiration, a process for cells to produce energy; transporting nutrients from the digestive system to cells throughout the body for cell growth, repair, and maintenance; carrying waste products such as carbon dioxide and urea away from the cells to be eliminated from the body through the lungs, kidneys, and other organs. Blood also contributes to strengthening the immunity system in the body, and contains platelets for clotting and so many more functions. Blood health is vital for maintaining the proper functioning of every organ and system in the body. Any disruptions or abnormalities in the blood composition can lead to serious consequences for overall health and well-being.

The prevalence of anemia among six groups as per the National Family Health Survey 5 (2019-21), is 25.0 percent in men (15-49 years) and 57.0 percent in women (15-49 years).
