Apollo Hospitals launches the first and dedicated Transcatheter Heart Valve Clinic, in the city at its premises at Jubilee Hills
Hyderabad, November 2022: The two-day Hyderabad Valves Conference, being hosted by Hyderabad Valves – an association of Interventional Cardiologists working to bridge the knowledge gap on the latest advances in intricate cardiac interventions, in collaboration with Apollo Hospitals, began here today. World-renowned cardiologists and the inventor of TAVI procedure, Prof. Alain Cribier, formally inaugurated the Conference being held on November 11th and 12th, 2022; at Park Hyatt.
Prof. Alain Cribier also inaugurated the first and dedicated Transcatheter Heart Valve Clinic, in the city at Apollo Hospitals, Jubilee Hills. The Transcatheter Heart Valve Clinic will be a one-stop, state-of-the-art facility for diagnosing and treating all valve related diseases. The new Clinic ensures care for valve diseases on par with international standards, provided by highly qualified and experienced cardiologists and cardiac surgeons.
Eminent cardiologists from across the globe including Prof. Alain Cribier; Prof. Helene from France; Dr. Peter Andreka from Europe and Dr. Ramesh from USA; along with Course Directors Dr. P C Rath, Head of the Department of Cardiology, Apollo Hospitals, Hyderabad; Dr. Manoj Agarwala, Director Cath Lab, Apollo Hospitals, Hyderabad and Dr. A. Sreenivas Kumar, Director Cardiology and Clinical Research, Apollo Hospitals, Hyderabad; will share valuable insights on interventional procedures involved in valve replacement. The Conference have a live telecast of sixteen cases from national and international centers. Eight of these Cases will be live cases performed at Apollo Hospitals.
Dr. P C Rath said, around 350 cardiologists are attending this Conference from India and the surrounding countries. On this occasion, the first and dedicated Transcatheter Heart Valve Clinic was opened at the Apollo Hospitals, Hyderabad. The advantage of this Clinic is, patients suffering from valve diseases will be jointly seen by a Cardiologist and Cardiothoracic surgeon and they both take a call on what is the most appropriate treatment for the patient, which benefits the patient.
Dr. Peter Andreka said, this is one of the most scientific meetings organised on this subject and the Transcatheter Heart Valve Clinic at Apollo Hospitals, Hyderabad, is the best clinic in this part, for the valve patients.
Prof. Helene said, the first valve replacement without surgery was done at our Centre two decades ago, Dr Rath had come to our Centre and we have been working on these since then. With so many patients here with valve problems, this Clinic will benefit them. This treatment is a new revolution in comparison to surgery for patients.
Dr Ramesh Daggubati said, aortic stenosis is about narrowing of the valve, which can be fatal and result in death. To prevent such serious repercussions, valve replacement is done through a small incision done in the groin. This can help patient to survive for 10 to 15 years more, otherwise the patient can’t survive beyond one to three years. Conferences like this help Cardiologists to learn and finetune performing of such complex procedures. The cardiologists at Apollo Hospitals, Hyderabad are adept at performing these minimally invasive procedures for valve treatment and through this Conference are imparting knowledge to others.
Dr. A. Sreenivas Kumar, Director Cardiology and Clinical Research, Apollo Hospitals, Hyderabad; said, when the patients’ valves were damaged, the available option in the past was open heart surgery, but such surgery involved high risk, especially for elderly patients and such patients were left to die. Through this new procedure the damaged valve is replaced by passing it to the heart through a small incision in the groin. At the new Transcatheter Heart Valve Clinic, started at Apollo Hospitals, Hyderabad, the heart Team comprising of Cardiologists, Cardiothoracic surgeons, Anaesthetists, Critical care specialists, Image consultants, take a collective decision of the procedure to be adopted, depending on the patient’s condition. Patients not just from Hyderabad, but from all over India can avail the service of this speciality clinic, since such facility is not available anywhere in the country.
On both days, the Conference will elaborate extensively on the latest interventional procedures involved in valve replacement like TAVI (Transcatheter Aortic Valve Implantation), a minimally invasive procedure in which a new valve is inserted without removing the old, damaged valve. TMVR (Transcatheter Mitral Valve Replacement), TTVR ((Transcatheter Tricuspid Valve Replacement), TPVR (Transcatheter Pulmonary Valve Replacement), and others. These procedures are minimally invasive and immensely benefit the patient by avoiding high-risk heart surgeries. The patients undergoing these procedures recover within 48 to 72 hours, compared to a month required in case of open heart surgeries.
