Bhopal, 9 February 2022: In the grand finale of India’s first online ghazal competition, ‘Junior Jagjit Singh’ organized by Troopel, singer Mahesh Rao from Guna, Madhya Pradesh, spreading the magic of his charismatic voice, won the title of ‘The Ultimate Junior Jagjit Singh’. Munnavar Rashid Khan from Kolkata was the first runner-up. He was also conferred with a special award by the juries because of his soulful performance. Tashmeen Kaur hailing from Ludhiana became the second runner-up.
Notably, the event, which was broadcast live on the channel’s social media platform, was watched by over 2 million people. The winners of the competition will be awarded a trophy, letter of honor, gift hamper, personal website, digital branding, exclusive print, and online interviews.
The champion Mahesh Rao believes, “I am enormously thankful to the troopel channel for allowing me to be honored with a great personality like Jagjit Ji. Programs like these are like an incentive for the artists coming from small towns. It provides an opportunity to make a mark in the music world.”
Finale was continued, with top-5 contestants selected from different parts of the country presenting Jagjit Ji’s non-filmy ghazals. Out of the 5, the top 3 were selected for the final round. Mahesh won the title of India’s second Junior Jagjit Singh after his exemplary performance in the special task round. Music Director and singer, Pramod Bhatt was the chief guest at the event, who shared the nuances of music with the participants and the audience.

Congratulating the contestants, Atul Malikram, the co-founder of the channels says, “Mahesh Rao did not give up after his exit from the first season, and appeared with more preparation in the second season. This shows his hard work and passion for singing.”
According to Iqbal Patel, Channel Head, “There is no dearth of Ghazal lovers in the country. We have seen the interests of 15-16 year olds in ghazals and Jagjit Singh’s renditions. It was really heartwarming to see ghazal lovers from all across the country join us.”
Out of more than 200 participants hailing from different parts of the country in the competition, the top-5 got the chance to make it to the final stage. It was exciting to watch the musical battle between the five contestants- Munawar Rashid Khan (Kolkata, West Bengal), Dhanashree (Vadodara, Gujarat), Tasmin Kaur (Ludhiana, Punjab), Mahesh Rao (Guna, Madhya Pradesh), and Kinjal Srivastava (Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh). Last year, Akhil Soni from Jaipur won the title of India’s first Junior Jagjit trophy.
Subsequently, the competition, which was started on October 10, a total of 14 participants from 5 audition rounds got a chance to reach the semi-finals, out of which five singers got a place in the final.
