Khan Academy and Maharashtra Government to Empower 62,000plus Schools with Free Digital Tools
Pune, 12th August 2025: Driven by a shared commitment to educational equity, Khan Academy India and the Government of Maharashtra have joined forces to bring free, high-quality, curriculum-aligned learning resources to government school students across the state. The 5-year MoU was signed in the presence of the Hon’ble Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, Hon’ble Education Minister Dadaji Bhuse, and Hon’ble Minister of State Mr. Pankaj Bhoyar, and marks a strategic step toward transforming public education through technology.
Under the Dr. Jayant Naralikar Learning Enhancement Program for Math and Science, Khan Academy’s digital resources will be implemented across 62,000+ government schools. Under this program, students across the state will have free, lifetime access to Khan Academy’s world-class content for maths and science in Marathi and English, fully aligned with the state curriculum. Khan Academy India will work closely with the School Education and Sports Department to ensure this digital content reaches all schools, teachers, and students across the state. Further, the department and Khan Academy intend to actively engage parents to enable the continuation of learning at home using the Khan Academy platform.
Speaking at the event, Hon’ble Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis shared that the partnership marks a crucial step toward making education more engaging, inclusive, and effective for students across Maharashtra. He went on to share, “this partnership will play a vital role in nurturing curiosity, strengthening foundational learning, and unlocking the full potential of every young learner”. Echoing this vision, Shri Ranjit Singh Deol, Principal Secretary, School Education and Sports Department, added, “This collaboration is a milestone in our efforts to advance STEM education through technology. By working closely with Khan Academy, we aim to empower teachers, engage parents, and ensure that every student has access to high-quality learning resources — both in classrooms and at home.”
“Our journey in Maharashtra began with 488 schools, and we are now set to scale across the entire state. This partnership is a testament to our shared belief that education is the foundation of growth and transformation, not just for individuals, but for entire communities,” said Swati Vasudevan, Managing Director, Khan Academy India. “It makes me incredibly proud to witness this rapid growth as we work together with our partners in Maharashtra to build a future where every child, regardless of their background, can access world-class education and thrive.”
With students at the heart of our mission, this partnership is a bold step toward reimagining what’s possible in public education. By offering free, world-class learning resources through Khan Academy’s platform, designed to support both self-paced learning and classroom teaching, we aim to unlock every child’s potential. Together with the state, we are equipping teachers with the tools, training, and support they need, and also nurturing a generation of learners ready to shape a brighter, more equitable future. Khan Academy’s program in Maharashtra is supported by Shell India Markets Private Limited and Cognizant Foundation.
