Ariel University Celebrates First Class of Medical School GraduatesAriel, Israel – In a historic milestone for Ariel University and the State of Israel, 53 doctors graduated today from the Adelson School of Medicine. This event, marking the completion of a journey that began in 2019, was attended by distinguished guests, including President Isaac Herzog and Dr. Miriam Adelson, whose unwavering support and vision made this dream a reality.

Professor Ehud Grossman, President of Ariel University, shared:
“Today’s ceremony is not just an academic milestone—it is the fulfillment of a vision that combines medicine, Zionism, and innovation. We are proud to see our graduates poised to strengthen healthcare across Israel, especially during a time when our doctors have shown remarkable dedication in treating battlefield injuries and complex traumas. This medical school is a key part of Ariel University’s rapid growth, proving that any preconceived notions are quickly dispelled once you see what we’ve built here.”

A Dream Fulfilled

Among the graduates is Shani Sperling-Mordo spoke about the complex emotions she felt upon graduating:
“This is an exciting milestone, but it comes during a challenging time for our country, especially for those of us working in hospitals and witnessing everything firsthand. Still, reaching this moment after all the hard work brings a real sense of satisfaction.”

She also reflected on the people who shaped her journey: “One of the special people I met along the way was the late Moshe Yedidia Leiter, who was a commander in the Shaldag unit and tragically fell last November in Gaza. He encouraged me to apply for the ‘Arrow’ program at Sheba, which became a turning point in my career. He was an extraordinary person who could have been an incredible doctor, and his loss is a great tragedy for our country.”

Looking ahead, she added: “I hope my fellow graduates and I will become excellent doctors, fulfilling our dreams while staying here in Israel and continuing to contribute to our country.”

Notably, 40 of the 53 graduates are women, making up 75% of the graduating class. This achievement not only showcases the brilliance of these female doctors but also marks a significant step forward in empowering women in healthcare and leadership roles in Israeli society.

The Vision Behind the School

The Adelson School of Medicine is a reflection of Dr. Miriam Adelson’s long-held dream. A physician and philanthropist, Dr. Adelson, alongside her late husband, Sheldon Adelson, was instrumental in establishing the school. For years, Dr. Adelson tirelessly worked to turn this vision into a reality, driven by her desire to strengthen Israel’s medical sector and address the critical shortage of doctors in the country. Despite facing opposition, her perseverance and commitment to the project never wavered.

Speaking at the ceremony, Dr. Adelson expressed her pride in the graduates and the school’s achievements:
“I trust you, the people of Israel trust you. You have a vital role in ensuring the health of our nation. Approach your patients with a smile, for when they see your smile, they will know everything is going to be fine.”

Adelson added: “For me, coming here to the heart of Samaria is like a Rosh Hashanah ceremony—a new year brings new beginnings, and today we celebrate the birth of talented young doctors who will bring healing to the people of Israel. May you bring relief from illness and injury, and may your work be a testament to the sanctity of life.”

Dr. Adelson’s commitment to advancing healthcare in Israel and her personal involvement in the medical school’s foundation have been a cornerstone of the project. She and her late husband believed that the establishment of this medical school in Samaria would not only produce future generations of doctors but also serve as a symbol of Zionist strength and resilience.

Professor Shai Ashkenazi, Dean of the Adelson School of Medicine, emphasized:
“You are entering a profession like no other—one that blends advanced science with compassion, where saving lives is at the core of your work. Always remember to treat your patients with empathy and humility. Your care and your wisdom will guide them toward healing.”

A Bright Future for Medicine in Israel

President Isaac Herzog addressed the graduates, offering his heartfelt congratulations:
“This day is about you—congratulations, Doctor! You have earned this title, but with it comes a great responsibility. From today onward, you will be entrusted with the most precious thing—people’s lives. Your education and training have prepared you for this, but never forget that the humanity of your work is what sets it apart.”

He continued: “We are facing difficult times as a nation, but our commitment to life, peace, and healing remains unwavering. This inaugural class of the Adelson School of Medicine is more than just a medical achievement—it is a beacon of hope and resilience for Israel.”

A Promising Path Forward

As Israel’s sixth medical school, Ariel University is addressing the country’s critical shortage of healthcare professionals. The impact of these new doctors will be felt in hospitals across the country, from the Negev to the Galilee, where their skills are desperately needed.

As these first graduates step into their new roles, they carry with them not only the knowledge and skills honed over years of rigorous study but also a deep sense of mission to heal and serve the people of Israel. This event stands as a testament to what can be achieved through determination, resilience, and an unwavering love for Israel.
