Smiling Tree planted 300 saplings in the campus of Ramjas College to honour the Indian medal winners in Tokyo Olympics

New DELHI Smiling Tree carrying forward with it’s green initiative organized a Plantation Drive at Ramjas College, University of Delhi, to honour the Indian medal winners in Tokyo Olympics

They planted 300 saplings in the campus of Ramjas College. The drive is in honour of Tokyo Olympics Medal winners Mirabai Chanu, PV Sindhu, Lovlina Borgohain, and was held adhering to the safety and social distancing parameters in view of COVID-19. The drive was inaugurated by Dr Manoj Kumar Khanna, (Principal, Ramjas College) and Dr Mukesh Kwatra, (founder Smiling Tree).

Speaking on the occasion Dr Mukesh Kwatra said “We have pledged to plant 100 saplings for every medal won by India at the Tokyo Olympics. As a mark of respect to the miraculous Mirabai Chanu, our first medalist, who won silver in 49 kg women weightlifting, for the badminton legend PV Sindhu who won a Bronze medal and for the Iron Lady from Assam Lovlina Borgohain who has won a Bronze medal in women boxing, we planted today 300 saplings at Ramjas College, University of Delhi”.

“In the coming week, we plan to plant 200 saplings in Delhi-NCR, for the men’s hockey team who made the country proud by winning the Bronze medal and for Ravi Kumar Dahiya who won silver in men’s 57kg freestyle wrestling. Alongside we hope to plant hundreds more for many more India medals at the Tokyo Olympics”, Dr Kwatra further added.

Dr Kartiki Bhatnagar Convenor (Garden Committee), Dr Jagjeevan Ram (NSS Program Officer), Nirbhay Kwatra, Mithilesh Pandey also participated in the drive along with host of students of Ramjas College and other eco-warriors. The plantation of the saplings was successfully carried out as per the planned schedule. Amaltas, Gulmohar, Jacaranda, Harshingar, Rubra champa, Hibiscus, Ficus and other varieties were planted.
