Guwahati, 12 January 2023: Piramal Foundation, the philanthropic arm of Piramal Group has touched the lives of more than one crore people in Assam. At a meeting with the Chief Minister of Assam, Shri. Himanta Biswa Sarma in Guwahati, Mr. Ajay Piramal, Chairman of Piramal Group apprised Shri. Sarma and senior Government officials on the efforts made by the Foundation in the area of education and healthcare in the State. The Chief Minister acknowledged the work done by the Foundation during the Covid19 pandemic and the continuing endeavor to touch a greater number of lives in Assam. During the pandemic, three new initiatives were launched by the Foundation namely, Aspirational Districts Collaborative (ADC), Digital Bharat Collaborative (DBC), and Tribal Health Collaborative (THC).
The meeting further strengthened the 12-year strong relationship of the Piramal Foundation with the State of Assam. Under the Digital Bharat Collaborative, the Foundation has committed to co-create an Assam context-specific, Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission-compliant comprehensive healthcare solution. And, under the Aspirational Districts Collaborative, the Foundation will enable the convergence of departments and schemes to deliver better health, water, and education outcomes in 7 Aspirational Districts.
The Aspirational Districts Collaborative has built localized channels, and engaged with various state ministries and communities for improving the lives of the citizens of Assam, while Digital Bharat Collaborative, has enabled the transformation of public health by leveraging technology to enhance last-mile delivery. The Tribal Health Collaborative aided in improving the health outcomes of tribal people to achieve National Health Mission (NHM) goals, helping communities understand health schemes and support active case finding of Tuberculosis.
The efforts of the last 12 years have resulted in lasting impact including strengthening 1000 demo schools as replicable models for holistic education, impacting over 60,000 students. Sarathi 104, the telehealth service responded to over 2 crore calls and proved especially beneficial during the pandemic when physical travel was restricted. Niramaya, the healthcare records program registered data of over 1 Lakh beneficiaries and the Aashwasan campaign successfully screened 4.5 lakh people for Tuberculosis across 8 districts.
