Telangana Police Are the Best in India, Setting New Benchmarks in Several Areas – Dr. Jitender, DGP, Telangana

Hyderabad, April 10, 2025:

“Greed is a major factor in many cybercrime cases. While it may not always be the sole or primary reason behind becoming a victim, it certainly plays a significant role,” said Dr. Jitender, Director General of Police, Telangana, during an interactive session hosted by FTCCI (Federation of Telangana Chambers of Commerce and Industry) on Innovation in Vigilance and Public Safety on Wednesday late evening

The session took place at FTCCI’s Surana Auditorium and aimed to foster collaboration between law enforcement agencies and the business community to strengthen public safety and vigilance measures.

Key focus areas of the discussion were:

  • Innovative vigilance mechanisms
  • Technological advancements in modern policing
  • Security challenges in today’s business environment
  • Strengthening collaboration between the public and private sectors

The event was attended by prominent figures including Dr. Suresh Kumar Singhal, President, FTCCI; R. Ravi Kumar, Senior Vice President; K.K. Maheshwari, Vice President; and Ajay Kumar Agarwal, Chair – PR Committee, along with other distinguished members. Over 200 people participated in the program.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Jitender stated, “The Telangana Police are the best in the country. We are on par with the finest forces across Indian states. According to Dainik Bhaskar, we were ranked No. 1 in India in terms of safety and security, scoring 6.91 out of 10—well ahead of Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh.”

He further added that Telangana Police recently won 18 trophies at the All India Duty Meet, which evaluated departments based on professionalism, scientific investigation, and other key policing parameters. “We aim for a perfect 10/10 next time,” he remarked, noting that the event was attended by DGPs from across India, as well as the Union Home Minister and Prime Minister.

Dr. Jitender highlighted that policing is a continuous process of improvement. “The Government of Telangana has allocated ₹800 crore for enhancing police mobility. Our response time is among the fastest in India—10 minutes in urban areas and 15–20 minutes in rural regions.”

He also emphasized the impact of initiatives like She Teams, which have significantly improved women’s safety in the state. Additionally, the Telangana Police have established two specialized units: the Telangana Cyber Security Bureau and the Narcotics Control Bureau, both led by top officers. These units have been further strengthened in the past six months, resulting in a 1.5x increase in case registrations and arrests compared to the previous year.

“Our zero-tolerance approach to drugs is yielding results. The cultivation of drug-producing crops has declined, and the market price of drugs has increased due to scarcity,” he said.

The Cyber Crimes Bureau’s data model is regarded as one of the best in the country and has been replicated and appreciated by the Union Government. “The victim refund rate in cybercrime cases has drastically improved—from ₹1 crore in 2023 to ₹185 crore in 2024,” he noted.

Dr. Jitender also praised Telangana’s traffic challan system, which is cashless, contactless, evidence-based, and people-centric. “This model is unique and has been successfully implemented over the past ten years.”

Dr. Suresh Kumar Singhal, President of FTCCI, emphasized the importance of the relationship between economic growth and public safety. “Our thriving business ecosystem depends heavily on a secure environment that allows businesses to operate confidently.”

Dr. Ajay Kumar Agarwal, Chair of the PR Committee at FTCCI, added, “Today’s session is a vital step in our joint efforts to enhance security in three major areas that concern the business community:

  1. Industrial theft and security
  2. Women’s safety in workplaces and public spaces
  3. Cyber fraud, which poses significant risks to businesses of all sizes.”
