Toyota Kirloskar Motor Signs Renewal Agreement with Kamarajar Port

Chennai, August 08, 2025: Reaffirming its commitment to “Make in India” and strengthening India’s role as a strategic vehicle manufacturing hub, Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM) has renewed its Wharfage Rate Agreement with Kamarajar Port Limited (KPL).

The renewed agreement was signed by senior leadership from both organizations in the presence of key stakeholders from the shipping and automotive logistics ecosystem at Kamarajar Port.

This agreement marks a significant step in strengthening TKM’s global supply chain and ensuring the continued seamless export of Completely Built Units (CBUs) through KPL, which has been the company’s primary export gateway since 2012.
The renewal also reflects TKM’s growing focus on operational efficiency, strategic collaborations, and enhancing India’s role in global vehicle production and trade.

Kamarajar Port

Emphasizing Strategic Collaboration

Since initiating exports in April 2012, TKM has been leveraging Kamarajar Port as its key logistics hub for international shipments. Beginning with the export of 247 units of the Toyota Etios series to South Africa, the company has steadily expanded its global footprint with the strong support of KPL’s robust port infrastructure.

Over the years, this collaboration has enabled TKM to deliver high-quality vehicles to emerging international markets.

Currently, TKM exports its Urban Cruiser Hyryder to 22 countries, including major markets such as South Africa, UAE, France, Egypt, Qatar, and Saudi Arabia. To date, over 1,80,000 CBUs have been shipped through KPL, underscoring the operational efficiency and trust built over several years.

Speaking at the occasion, Mr. Yoshinori Noritake, Vice Chairman and Chief Technical Officer, Toyota Kirloskar Motor, said:

“Renewing our decade-long agreement with Kamarajar Port enables us to continue serving global markets with world-class products made in India. For many years, KPL has been an integral part of our export operations and has become a reliable partner in achieving manufacturing excellence and global supply chain efficiency. Their continued support is critical to our long-term vision aligned with the Government of India’s ambition to make the country a global hub for vehicle exports. We are confident that this ongoing partnership will drive greater innovation, efficiency, and sustainability in our outbound logistics strategy.”

Mr. Sunil Paliwal, Chairman, KPL and Chennai Port Authority, said:

“Toyota Kirloskar Motor is one of our earliest and most consistent automotive partners, and we take pride in contributing to their global success from India’s shores. This long-standing partnership reflects our shared commitment to setting new benchmarks in automotive exports. At KPL, we remain focused on offering top-notch infrastructure, reliable service, and customized solutions to our port users.”

TKM’s growing export volumes are a testament to this. With India’s manufacturing sector expanding and global demand for vehicles rising, KPL is well-positioned to support industry leaders like Toyota through sustainable, future-ready port operations.
