Running, Wellness & Active Lifestyle Workshop Held for Media Professionals

Hyderabad, July 07th, 2025: In a first-of-its-kind initiative, a workshop on RunningWellness & Active Lifestyle—specially curated for members of the media—was held on Sunday at the Press Club, Somajiguda.

Jointly organised by Hyderabad Runners Society and Press Club, Hyderabad, the interactive session aimed to promote fitness, heart health, and active living among the media fraternity—professionals known for high-stress, deadline-driven lives.

The workshop featured expert talks on:

  • Introduction to Running – Getting started the right way
  • What Are Marathons? – Demystifying the race
  • Health Benefits of Running – Boosting physical and mental wellness
  • Nutrition Tips for Runners – Fueling the body efficiently
  • Heart Health & Running – Expert advice for a stronger heart

Over 75 media professionals participated in the three-and-a-half-hour workshop.

Press Club President L. Venu Gopala Naidu and Executive Committee Member B. Gopa Raju graced the occasion. Mr. Naidu remarked, “Being busy is no excuse. Journalism never sleeps, but your health deserves attention. An active lifestyle is essential.”

Hyderabad Runners Society Founder Mr. Rajesh Vetcha, President Kumar Kaliappan, and Member Mr. Prasad P.V. participated in the event. Mr. Vetcha shared that Hyderabad Runners, since its inception in 2007, has been on a mission to promote running as a mainstream fitness option. Flagship initiatives include Couch to 5K, Outdoor Kids, Train & Shine, and the Hyderabad Marathon—Telangana’s biggest fitness event and India’s second-largest marathon.

Highlighting the philanthropic side of marathons, Mr. Vetcha noted that globally, charity runs raise over $1.2 billion annually, with India’s Tata Mumbai Marathon alone raising ₹54 crore in 2024. “Marathons are powerful platforms not just for fitness, but also for fundraising and social impact,” he added.

Dr. Amaresh Rao Malempati, noted cardiologist and professor, addressed common myths about running, COVID vaccines, and heart health. He said, “Running reduces heart attack risk, but isn’t a guarantee. Moderate running (up to 40–50 miles/week) is generally safe and beneficial for most people.” He urged people to avoid misinformation regarding vaccines and sudden deaths.

Dr. Rajat Chauhan, a leading sports medicine expert, addressed the audience virtually from New Delhi. He called running a tool for “self-discovery and inner balance,” encouraging participants to listen to their bodies and find their rhythm.

Dr. Lahari Surapaneni, nutritionist and wellness consultant, gave practical advice on daily food habits, stressing the importance of nutrition in maintaining physical health and enhancing personal appearance.

The event marked a meaningful step in encouraging Hyderabad’s media community to prioritise their well-being in today’s fast-paced world.
