Bank of Baroda Acts on World Environment Day to Fight Plastic Pollution

Chandigarh/Ludhiana, 06th June, 2025Bank of Baroda (Bank), one of India’s leading public sector banks, celebrated World Environment Day 2025 with a series of impactful initiatives aimed at driving environmental awareness and action. Aligned with this year’s global theme Beat Plastic Pollution’ and spearheaded by Shri Debadatta Chand, Managing Director & CEO, along with the Bank’s Executive Directors, the Bank reaffirmed its commitment to sustainability through on-ground initiatives and employee engagement across the country.

The Bank organised a Cleanliness Drive at Bandra Kurla Complex, where employees joined hands to remove plastic waste, emphasizing collective action for a cleaner, greener community. Bank of Baroda also initiated the establishment of the ‘bob Earth Forest’ at Baroda Sun Tower, which is envisioned to evolve into a vibrant micro-ecosystem in Mumbai’s Bandra Kurla Complex

Reflecting on the occasion, Shri Debadatta Chand, Managing Director & CEO, Bank of Baroda said, “The environment is a shared responsibility—one that demands proactive, sustained effort and a long-term vision. Through initiatives under the ambit of bob Earth such as a bouquet of sustainability-linked financial products, eco-conscious operations, bob Earth Forest and the active participation of all employees as climate champions, our aim is to embed sustainability into every aspect of our business.”

The Bank also undertook other sensitisation efforts, including a week-long Interdepartmental Ambience Drive, promoting lesser use of plastic in workspaces, an educational webinar on ‘ESG: Aligning Purpose, People and Planet’, and a street play that brought to life the realities of plastic pollutionBank employees and their families added a personal touch by composing and performing an environment awareness song titled – “Le Shapath” capturing the essence of environmental consciousness and responsibility.

Beyond the Corporate Office, World Environment Day was observed across the country by the Bank’s Regional and Zonal Offices with similar initiatives, showcasing a unified commitment to environmental sustainability at all levels of the organisation.

As part of its efforts to promote environmental sustainability, some of the initiatives taken by Bank of Baroda include the adoption of Solar Rooftops at its branches and offices, obtaining Green Building certifications, extensive tree plantation drives, and the launch of green finance products such as Green Deposits, Residential Rooftop Solar Loan Scheme and the Green Hydrogen Financing Scheme.
