As we progress into the Nutrition Month, let’s pledge to include these 6 nutrients in our daily diet

The concept of health and nutrition has gained a lot of attention due to the ongoing pandemic, building good immunity to decrease the susceptibility of the disease is the prime concern of the people nowadays. While people around the world are trying to incorporate a healthy diet and lifestyle changes, it may not always be an easy task to accomplish. Nutrients play a very important role in the growth of the body and mind along with creating a defence mechanism against various diseases throughout our lives. To raise awareness about the importance of nutrition, Heralding the beginning of this month, PM Narendra Modi spoke about National Nutrition Month (previously called National Nutrition Week) which is celebrated in India every year during September to spread awareness about nutritional needs, deficiencies and malnutrition.
Here are six nutrients that you should add to your daily meals to lead a very healthy lifestyle.
- Vitamin. C
Vitamin C such as amla, oranges, sweet lime, lemons, guava, kiwi, vegetables such as bell peppers, tomatoes, greens are necessary to have as they play an important role in increasing our immunity.
- Vitamin E
Vitamin E such as Seeds and nuts has antioxidant properties and helps in improving immunity. Daily have 5 pieces of almonds or 3 walnuts. A tsp of sunflower seeds can be added to your diet too.
- Proteins
Good quality protein in major meals. Eggs, cooked lean meats, dals, grams, pulses, dals
- Fibres
Fibres in the form of whole grains, vegetables and fruits are a must in your diet.
- Probiotic foods.
Probiotics enhance gut health and thereby, enhances immunity too. Include foods like curd and buttermilk in your daily diet.
- Cooking practices
Keeping the current situation in the mind of the spread of Covid-19, Pressure cooks foods. Include sauteed vegetables and hot soups in the daily diet. Avoid raw salads and vegetable juices for now. Consume foods that are easy to digest
